R6 with Yamaha 300hp Outboard

Thank you everyone for the help and advice. We ended up not driving the R6 with the outboard. They had an R6 with the 380 that we test drove because I had read about such good things with that boat and that size engine. It was an incredible boat. With that said based upon what we’re looking to do we placed a deposit and ordered the R8 With the 430. It was more than what we planned on spending however since I’m going in with my brother, we decided what the hell. He is turning 60 and I’m 53. His grandkids and my kids will love it.

Again thank you for the help and the kind words. I will update when we get it sometime after the first of the year.

For anyone who is wondering... I have a R6 with the 300 hp Mercury. I hit 52 mph yesterday at 5200 rpm. Seems like enough hp to get it done. Not wanting for more. Outboard hp is different than sterndrive hp it seems.

I personally think the layout on the R6 outboard is the best layout. I really dont understand the "wasted space" behind the drivers seat on the stern drive unit. Unless you can get a galley (25sc) its about the worst place to be on the boat. Basically an uncomfortable jump seat. The outboard layout has the best use of space at the back of the boat. Both for seating and storage.

I feel the only drawback is the motor sticking off the back. However it is not a problem for us. There is plenty of space out back to swim and feel the outboard is the look every manufacturer is going with. Just makes sense to have the motor out back. I only see the one draw back.

My .02. Pretty sure any R6 should make the owner happy. Like Burger King.. Have it your way. I like my outboard.

Hey we don't discriminate against egg beaters here.
Honestly the center walk thru transoms are my favorite. You get full wrap around seating and balanced loads almost every time. Great lay out my friend.

And we prefer the side walk through so we have something to hold on to for balance. Our lake is getting rougher every year due to the amount of surf boats.

How do you like the dark interior?

It is nice. Looks high end. We like the look with the black exterior. The black accents of the interior go well with the exterior. The vinyl seems to stay cooler than expected. Its not "cool" in the hot sun but much better than expected. Im sure its warmer than a white or lighter interior but seems bearable. Been out on 95 degree sunny days and no issues with the seats too hot. Almost too hot though. Personally the bigger issue is the seagrass mats getting too hot if in direct sun. Roast your feet quick like. Simple fix. Get em wet.

Thank you for the response. We have only put a deposit down. The boat has not been put in production or anything yet. That is valuable feedback because we still are considering the outboard. Your boat is awesome I saw it on the other thread. I like the outboard idea for salt water. It has a ton of storage which I like a lot and I think it looks very good.

We just purchased the same R6 with the 300 Yamaha. We took the sea trial and it performed fine with the 300 hp engine. We are planning on using it for just pleasure cruising in southern Florida. We will not be using for skiing or any other sporting uses.
