2009 222 and 220 difference

Post by WRECKEDCARS64 »

I’ve looked on Cobalts site trying to determine difference in these models. Specifically aft freeboard measurement, not having any luck. What are the major differences in these 2 hulls?

So depending what model 220 you go with. This is a 2007 and a 2010 220 and then a 2007 222 which is the same as a 2009
There is a huge difference between a 220 and 222. Totally different hull and ride and yes freeboard is a huge diff. The 222 will ride smoother and better. I put it like driving a grandpa boat or a caddy, compared to the corvette 220. That's just my opinion. And a picture of my 220 and a 222

So a 2009 222 is more like the older 226 with a shorter aft freeboard? This will ride smoother than it’s 220 brother?

You obviously prefer the 220 style. Tell me why?

I like to feel like I’m riding “in” a boat as opposed to riding “on” a boat. If that makes sense

You want a 222 then. Ask tgrace what he thought about riding in my 220. Lol
I love it because it's like driving a sports sportscar not a suv.

Also if I recall during my search for a 22 footer, I think I recall that for these vintage boats, the 222 has a step through side entry transom and the 220 has a step over entry down the middle into the cockpit.

Correct and these older boats were actually 22 ft without the swim platform.

I love it because it's like driving a sports sportscar not a suv.
I've owned two Triumph TR6's, a Datsun 280Z, Open GT, BMW 318i,Acura Legend Coupe, BMW 325i, and BMW328i, and a Ford Mustang.
I was 50 before I had an automatic transmission and 4 doors.
Now I drive a SUV.
Won't change boat or car, but I see why you like sports car comparison.
It's why they make so many models.

222. Had a 220, wasn’t a fan. Went to a older model.

Based on your notes, you’ll want the 222.

Biggest complaint with the 220 was ride quality. Didn’t handle our lake as well as other boats I owned. Turning is excellent and gets on plane quick. But the spray is constant. No matter where the trim is or the angle you take the chop. Trust me, I tried it all before selling it.

I did not find any spray or ride issues with our 220. What year was yours?

His was the same as mine. He's just a crabby old man that didn't want to get wet while boating! 😂😂😂

Actually we go back a ways. He's a great guy. He has a I can't keep a boat for more than a month disease. His is worse than mine. 😂😂

I have no experience with a 222, but I do have a 2012 220 and don't have any issues with spray. Did they change the hull with the newer style - (2010 maybe)?
