Pick one and buy it..
I ordered our boat without ever setting foot on a Cobalt in the water. It didn’t disappoint.
I didn’t drive an r7 before I bought mine either. Talked to a few people on my dock that had one and I had drove an r5 at the spring demo days so I had an idea of what I was getting. And it didn’t disappoint

Even just a ride in tanks was enough for me. The bonus was the one Katie drove in the test tank at Cobalt! They didn't have a clue what we were doing! I was just glad they Leave the keys in them!
Rick shows up says hey how did the floor get all wet. Well it did a nice rooster tail 🐓😂😂😂

One look at the boat...yeah, no chance it’s going to suck..
I can’t remember ever taking a test ride in any vehicle..ever.. except my wife’s current buy.. She was thinking about downsizing, and test driving a mid sized SUV put a stop to that.🤣

Is it just me or does the new R boats look a bit cheaper than the old ones? The helm is very boxy and the lines overall is a bit without finess?

Then add weight and deadrise from 21 to 18.

Still love my 220 but it starts to feel a bit old.

I have had my R6 Surf for a couple of weeks now. The craftsmanship is great and although biased, the boat looks really sharp in person and I am getting a lot of compliments. The ride is very good and the 380hp seems like a perfect fit. I have owned Sea Rays for 20 years (last one a 2007 250 SLX with the 496 HO) and the Cobalt is definitely a step up. Overall I'm impressed with how it handles and I am very pleased with the acceleration and time to plane for such a heavy boat.

This is great to hear. Have you checked out the wave that the boat throws out yet or are you still in engine break-in mode? Mine should be here within the next 2-3 weeks and I absolutely can't WAIT! :D

I’m sure your going to love it!

Did just a little testing with the sales rep. He said it was definitely better than the R5’s he has tested. Still in the break-in period but if it stays warm we will get it out again soon. I ended up adding the trim tabs after seeing a lot of R6’s with them on the internet. Was a told by Cobalt TT can help refine the wave. I haven’t seen it first hand but I am hoping that is the case.

oh awesome! Yeah, I have the trim tabs too! I figure it will help roll the boat over even more than the surf gate would which will help you tune things, although I'm not quite at the level of surfing that I'd remotely notice yet! haha! How long does it take those 6 ballast tanks to fill and empty? I think there are 3 pumps so hopefully < 5 min?

Only filled them one time with the rep. Certainly didn’t seem long. 5 min might be about right.

I like the old designs better too, but the new ones are more reflective of changes in autos and other vehicles and are arguably more “modern.” Still hard to find something comparable in their price range (I can’t afford a Riva ;))

Disappointed with the new hull design so I went with the last R5 on the lot. Coastal waters can be a bit rough at times and going from 21 to a 17 deadrise was too drastic IMO.

17? Cobalt told me it is 18 at the stern but that is only part of the story - the whole hull shape was changed. Anyway, I don't think there is a bad Cobalt out there and I'm sure you'll enjoy the R5. :)

Our new R6 was just delivered to the marina and I got to walk around and through it. I'm in love. Cannot wait to get it in the water. The bayside blue is beautiful!
