How long to build it?
Ok, so my R6 Surf build started in late January and is supposed to be delivered in a couple of weeks now...How long does it usually take to build these boats? I'm really surprised that Cobalt doesn't have a "here are the build phases and here's what phase your boat is in" kinds of updates that I can get via email or a web site. I mean...in the end I'll still have a boat, I just wish there was SOMETHING out there for me to check.

Re: How long to build it?
I got updates on mine through my dealer...I was probably a pain in his arse, but he kept me updated as far as a general timeline. He did tell me yesterday that everything is a mess currently with the freeze from a couple weeks back in Texas....engines are now 12-14 weeks out at best, he used to have them in 2 days or less...and the polymers such as those used in gel coat, wiring harness', etc. are now backordered because everything froze up and the factories are having to take a time out to repair pipes, etc. He said he cant even get a new Cobalt now til 2022.lespaulrob wrote: Thu Mar 11, 2021 9:23 am Ok, so my R6 Surf build started in late January and is supposed to be delivered in a couple of weeks now...How long does it usually take to build these boats? I would think yours should be getting close though and dealer should have an idea of when it will complete and ship.

Re: How long to build it?
How long did it take overall during a normal timeline? That's crazy on the backlog for engines and polymers though! I wonder how much that is related to demand across the board for all boats and related to the freezing temps.Elkhunter2372 wrote: Thu Mar 11, 2021 11:53 amI got updates on mine through my dealer...I was probably a pain in his arse, but he kept me updated as far as a general timeline. Re: How long to build it?
I ordered mine towards the end of July. Dealer already had it in the "order" queue but they hadn't actually started building it. I can't remember exactly but seems like they started it right around the 1st of August...took delivery 9/26 from Denver. Dealer basically said then it was 6 weeks from start to ship. But with supply/demand, etc. now I just don't know...lespaulrob wrote: Thu Mar 11, 2021 12:02 pmHow long did it take overall during a normal timeline? Re: How long to build it?
Yeah, mine is the same. I got into the queue in early December right after they announced everything and the build started on Jan 26 (I think that's the date anyway). I'm assuming it's near the end of the line, even with the snow shutdown and even if it's a few weeks delayed, I'm good with them taking their time and making it perfect so hopefully I'll see and know something really soon. ohhhh the anticipation! lol!Elkhunter2372 wrote: Thu Mar 11, 2021 12:52 pm I ordered mine towards the end of July. Re: How long to build it?
Well, I heard from the dealer today that the boat will ship on either the 22nd or 29th this month! I guess 7-8 weeks is the going timeline right now, but that's probably due to the snowstorm shutdown.

Re: How long to build it?
Ordered my R5 in September. Build date was Jan 5th. It came in last week. The dealer said we were lucky because Cobalt notified dealers last week about delays in obtaining parts to build boats. Good luck, the wait is painful!

There you go! I remember taking delivery on mine in late March in 2019. I had a goal to finish the 20hr break in period by Memorial Day.lespaulrob wrote: Thu Mar 11, 2021 8:33 pmThanks! Re: How long to build it?
ha! that's exactly what we are planning on! We'd like to be surfing by Memorial Day Weekend!tgrace98 wrote: Fri Mar 12, 2021 5:53 am

BTW, any tips on breaking it in? I've seen so many varying opinions around the interwebz (i.e. drive it like you stole it from day 1) but I pretty much plan on following the break-in in the manual of:
-take it easy and vary the RPMs for the first 2 hours
-next 10, drive mostly normal but still vary the RPMs and go easy on wide open throttle
-Next 8, drive normal
-change oil
-surf
Is that what most do? We do plan on keeping the boat for many years, so I figure doing it right for the first 20 hours isn't TOO much of a sacrifice.

Re: How long to build it?
So only thing my dealer told me to do was not to travel the same RPM for more than 5 minutes at a time for the first 20hrs. So I would take off and get up to about 3k RPMS. then go up to 3500, then 4k up to about 5k, then back down etc. I think I hit WOT twice during the break in. Then off to the dealer for the 20hr service. They drain all the fluids and check the drive to make sure no metal shavings. Then lets go do some surfing. I'm now at 145hrs after 2 seasons.lespaulrob wrote: Fri Mar 12, 2021 8:59 amha! that's exactly what we are planning on! Re: How long to build it?
Has anyone heard anything specific in regards to specifics about delays? I ordered an R8 Surf in December with a build date in early May.FirstStar wrote: Thu Mar 11, 2021 9:54 pm Ordered my R5 in September. Build date was Jan 5th. It came in last week.
