Wakeboard Tower Suggestions

Post by marsbars34 »

New to the forum. Just bought a 2012 296 a month ago. Never had a Cobalt before so I'm excited. There isn't any type of canopy of arch on the boat so I'm looking for suggestions on what type of wakeboard tower I could install. I want to put something more sleeker on the boat than a traditional bimini top so I figured a wakeboard tower with a bimini will give me the shade I need along with a sleek looking arch. Cobalts suggests getting a Samson tower but those are on back order until December and I need something for this summer. Any ideas as to what I should be looking for instead? The Cobalt dealers in Florida are pretty much disinterested in helping out as I'm sure this isn't a big profit job for them so I figured I would join this forum for ideas. I also have a bunch of dimwitted other questions on the Cobalt as well that will clearly show my lack of experience and ignorance. Thanks in advance for the ideas.

Hey MB34...welcome to the CobaltChat forum. So glad you found us!

Yes, Samson is the go-to tower. Personally I would put my name in the hat and get on their list for the install. Their towers are that good.
If that is not an option there are other manufacturers out there. Have you looked at Aerial Wake Towers or Monster Towers? Others will chime in shortly.

Let loose with your other Cobalt questions. There are no dumb one's here. It's a great place to learn as well as a place to share what you have learned.

Any pics of your 296? How is she powered?

Again, welcome aboard mate!

I finally got a Samson tower ordered yesterday. They are quoting Dec 2021 / Jan 2022 at this point.

What's even more frustrating is that they want their normal 50% deposit even though the lead time is 10 months instead of their normal 2-3. That's a ton of cash to tie up for close to a year for nothing. 😡

Blade with cross-bars instead of side panels, black powdercoat, black bimini.

I REALLY wanted a Dagger since that was the OEM tower, but they claim to no longer have parts for that.

Thanks for the info. I think I may have to go that route too and suck up a summer of non shade until it comes in. I'm looking at the Blade as well. I'll just have everyone hold an umbrella that doesn't want sun.....

I have twin Volvos 5.7 with 320 HP. After I figure out the wakeboard tower, I have other minor things to fix like a broken tachometer, windlass motor, etc. Not to mention I also have to know how the Penta EVC system works. I've never had an EVC with Trim Assist before on a boat and I know it will make life easier, I just need to figure out how it works. I didn't get a manual on the EVC so I'm doing a lot of Google searches.

Thanks AJ. That's a great suggestion as a temporary summer fix. I appreciate you sending that.

I already tried that but the guy I bought the boat from yelled at me and said I have to put it in the water first for it to work right.
