I was asked for pictures. Boat is now delivered and MTodd is the new owner. On the test drive we saw 55 MPH with 6 people on board. ( with masks )
At 7,000 ft elevation Mike said he only saw 47 MPH at 3,700 RPM. This boat has the 1.78 Outdrive, maybe you guys can advise Mike as to what props will help him at 7,000 ft. I suspect a top RPM of 4,500 would serve him better on his lake. I have to say, as a long time Ski Nautique owner, I loved this boat. It is a load to trailer around but a very nice boat.

What props pitches are on it now? He's going to have to drop about 3 pitches.

Oh only the boat. But I would take a Chevelle BB or vette any day. Really I'm a Pontiac guy deep down.
But I would be driving a newer small block vette today if I could. I get to drive plenty of fast vehicles all the time so I'm good. The Lamborghini Hurrican is Prob my fav though. I'll get back to Vegas and drive one again some day on the track. The Hell Cat is just crazy fun. That's the vehicle that pinned me back in the seat the most though.

In today's world with computer controlled fuel injection horsepower is more than double what we considered awesome 20 years ago. My son has an older 1999 Corvette C5 with the 5.7L and a 6 speed manual, twin turbos and it makes 900 HP, 738 at the rear wheel at last test. He has raced the Hellcats and it is not even close. Hellcat, 4,000 pounds 700+ HP vs the Vette at 3200 pounds with 900 HP. My son said he pulled bus lengths on the guy and the guy could not believe anything beat his Hellcat, he was totally flabergasted that his Hellcat did not stomp on the Vette. Same son, his family car, Audi S6 twin turbo, factory stock was around 450 HP I think but it is now faster than his Corvette. He installed larger turbo's, writes software to run the engine, transmission and clutch. It is 4WD so it launches like a rocket. He ran it at the 1/4 mile drags last week, ran a 10.9 at 128 MPH and said he had no traction thru 3 gears or it would have run faster, that is with 4wd. He is tuning cars for people running the 1/2 mile drag races, fastest was a Porsche 911 Turbo that ran 209 MPH from a dead stop in the 1/2 mile. They think it is making 1,300 HP. These kids are changing the rules, everything is much faster today. I am still old school and a Big Block still turns my key. OK, back to boats!

My brother had a 66 GTO 4.11 4 speed when I was in High School, I drove that car a lot and it is still one of my favorites, drove smooth had great power and looks. I would grab one in a minute if the right deal came along but they are nearly out of sight on pricing today.

The Goats rock. Back in the HS days had a chance to get a judge cheap just didn't have money back then and a 66 vette my BIL had. 6k I could have bought that vette for. If you only knew and had cash at 16. Man those were the days.
Yes hell cats are heavy. Just fun to drive for being stk. They are getting well over 1000 hp out of them though. Yes is always a faster one just around the corner. So cool your kids can program. Now get him to break into the Volvo ecu and let's get these 380s tuned to a 430 and so on. Maybe a 240 can grow up to be a 430 who knows.

The biggest thing with modern HP is the price. To turbo an LS it takes $500 of Chinese parts. Back in the 80s this would have cost almost 10k when an average Joe made what 16K a year?

My very good friends have been pulling a twin turbo BBC 2wd truck since the 90s. It makes around 3000HP, mechanical alcohol injected and they dont even run headers just log type manifold made out of well pipe with turbos bolted to the end. So this has crossed my mind a few times over the years. My problem is if I run faster than 11.5 or 130mph I need a roll bar. Faster than 9.99 need a cage - this takes all fun out of a street car and the family can no longer ride in the back seat. So what good does all that HP do on the street - cant hook it and 100mph+ burnouts get a little dangerous even for me.
I just stick with my 454 tow truck engine.
