Buying Cobalt R6

Post by netexan »

Hey all,

So glad I found this board, lots of great information.

I have a couple of questions about buying a new R6:

* I have been scouring the net looking for opinions on the new R6, usually I wouldn't buy a new model of a car but boats don't change as frequently and I can't see them having a lot of the same kinds of first model year issues... or do they? The R6 has a lot of features I would prefer over the R5.

* I know everyone here seems to have a "biggest engine" opinion but I feel the 350 is probably enough for a fun time on the R6 (given it's @1k heavier than the R5), is that fair? We are going to pull skiers / tubes etc but not enter races. ;)

* I am currently looking at a new R6 (150hp) and the dealer is pushing back on 22% off MSRP but I am pretty sure they will give over on that. They are also saying the $5700 destination / prep fee which I said is too high is not something they can move on... seems odd?

Thanks in advance!

Hey netexan. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!

Yes lots of opinions here on the forum about the R6.

Is this your first Cobalt? It’s a sellers market for sure. I’m surprised the boat you’re looking at isn’t sold already.

Go 380 horse and be done.

Again welcome aboard mate!

So my r7 is 100lbs lighter than the r6 and I wouldn’t want anything less than the 380hp power plant

Hey,

Yep this is my first Cobalt. It's not a boat on the market, I would be ordering it. :)

I'll take a look at the 380 and see if it's in the budget... might need to remove some options to make that work.

I look at it this way. That destination fee is there profit maker. So it is either more or less depending on what other discount they give you. It's hwy robbery. With doing water sports I wouldn't get anything less then a 380. If your financing it really won't add much more to your payment plus you will get some back on the trade in value. Go big or go home.

Good man don’t even consider anything less than the 380. BBP is right....get the power. I’m sure the boat will do great with the 350 until you start adding people and coolers and gear. Plus is water sports is your thing power is good. And not to mention properly powered boats sell faster than those that aren’t. Always consider resale man.....you know for the future upgrade 😂

But seriously....get the power.

Ok, redoing the quote with the 380...

Any recommendations for the sound?

Prem Sound w/Transom Spkrs. is pricey but I have no idea if it's worth it.

Just how much are these boats 300 vs 350 vs 380 valued at 5 years later? Or comp. 2015s I cant find enough for sale. I am not in the know.

Makes sense, any other must haves? I don't plan on getting the 10" Garmins.

This is our first new boat coming from a 1990 Regal 19' so... big upgrade. :)

No idea but I can tell you even the dealer said they basically won't order the 300 for their inventory boats and highly recommend against it.

I think filler cushions are. They add so much more room. We never remove ours. The table is nice. Must have not really.

Table is on the list as a Wife must have. ;)

Will take a look at the cushions. Hadn't considered those.

You have been a huge help, thanks!

Is easy I like spending others money 🤑
Are you thinking about under water lights and led rgb? The fancy wood I would personally pass on. Flag is a must have. As others say try to get the dealer to throw that in. You picked your tower right? I like black stitching on the seats VS white. Or color matched. Hides the dirt.
You may want trim tabs unless they are standard?

So I’m curious... what are the features you like that the R6 has that the R5 doesn’t? I think price wise you’d get a much better deal on a new R5. Is just a matter of wanting the latest newest model? (Totally fine, we want what we want). If u do go R6 I agree 380 hp is a must. I have an r7 Surf with this the 380 and it does fine. But I think any less power than that I’d be disappointed. Post some pics of what ever you decide when it comes in!
