Having both would be ideal, but I just went with a mooring cover since the boat is on and uncovered lift when not in use. The mooring cover provides better weather protection (when installed correctly) and doesn't create the oft-seen "funnel effect" under the windshield when the velcro between the bow and cockpit covers detaches.

I am not thrilled with the factory mooring cover after 5 years. My boat lives on a trailer and I feel it gets lots of water in when it rains...I have had it altered, sprayed it with 303, etc I think I am having a custom over the tower cover made for it in the next couple weeks. It will be similar to my winter cover but will only go to rub rail. I can’t do inside storage and want it water right....the mooring cover hasn’t done that for me.

Had to get a good seal around the tower with either cover. These days, I just roll the carpet forward of the aft starboard scupper, which area tends to get water trickling down. The rest of the interior stays dry with my bow/cockpit covers.

We bought the factory mooring cover. I don't like snaps on a boat and prefer cleaner lines for washing and waxing. When we first purchase boat, the cover was tough to handle. Like everything else, practice makes perfect. We bought a fiberglass dock box and mounted it on the front of our lift, with wooden planks to walk on. Wife gets on one side of boat, me on the other, and we just roll it off, place in dock box, lower boat, and we're gone. She does store the tent poles on the boat and gets them done while I'm taking care of other stuff. The factory mooring cover fits great, but was sorry to hear about 5 years from now. Maybe, since ours never sees sunlight except by the swim platform, it will last longer.

That is a great looking cover! I have been thinking about a mooring cover for our R5 and was going to start a new thread asking what everyone’s thoughts are about them but then I saw this one for an R3 mooring cover, since they are the same model I will just hijack this one...

I have a snap on bow and cockpit cover on the R5 now but I really hate the snaps and eventually they will start to loosen because I like to tow with the covers on because we have a 80 mile one way trip to where we normally go boating. Plus its all freeway driving so its high speed and it seems like one or two snaps always pop free and then leave a nice black scar on the gel coat that I have to rub out. I would still keep my snap covers for the occasional times the boat stays on the water overnight. Do you mind me asking how much the cover was? I assume that you ordered it through your dealer. Also what’s your opinion of the cover now that you have had it for a while?

They cost around $1500 from the dealer. We love it, especially for towing and for covering it to keep it from the sun. I dont like the snap covers we have for towing, for all the same reasons. We also dont like that they dont keep the topside and swim platform out of the sun. The snap covers do serve a purpose for the overnights we spend at hotels on the water, or at cottages without lifts for the weekend. But if i were ordering a new boat, I would likely save the money and only order the mooring cover.

Custom over the tower picked up this morning. No water getting through. I’ll use the mooring cover when I park on the water. Other than that this is the new summer cover. Material is top gun and is rubber coated on both sides

Thank you for the response! Have you noticed that the cover is leaving any fine scratches in your gel coat? I’ve read some people have complained about the mooring covers leaving fine scratches from wind buffeting.

I have not noticed that. But my boat is ceramic coated - so that may play a part.

Thank you, that’s what I wanted to hear! Now I just have to convince my wife that we should have a new cover... The boat is kind of a sore spot this year because we have put quite a bit of money into it in improvements! This one may have to wait till next year. Maybe just in time to tow down to the 2021 Cobalt regatta!

I got it in Columbus Ohio at artisan boat covers in Columbus Ohio. The material is called top gun. Any custom shop could make this but they need the boat.

Pm me if you want price info
