Problem Anchoring R7 Surf

So... I’ve only had my boat for about three months And I have the hardest time anchoring. Initially I believe the anchor was too small for the boat so I asked a dealer and they gave me the largest one that will fit in the box. It’s much better now but I am still having issues. I drop, pump reverse, drift, tug at it, and sometimes it catches But most of the time it doesn’t. Any tips you guys can give me???

What type of bottom does your body of water have? Sand, muck, rock? Also what type of anchor are you using? Also as akorcovelos posted are you letting out enough line? I use a danforth/ fluke anchor with 6’ of chain and usually anchor on a sandy or muck bottom and it seems to work very well. I can have multiple boats tied to me with just my anchor and not move. I also let out a lot of extra line, sometimes probably too much but it’s better than not having enough out. I watch some people throw and anchor, tie it to the side of their boat with the rope extending straight down and wonder why it wont hold. Sometimes I wonder if they even have enough rope out for the anchor to touch the bottom...

The danforth anchor I was given with the purchase of our boat was vinyl coated and for some reason that thing wouldn’t dig in an hold at all. I don’t think that anchor would hold and inflatable raft!

I'm using a Danforth with my R3, also with 6' of chain and it seems to hold in a sand/mud bottom.

Buy a box anchor. Best purchase I have made for the boat. Our lake bottom varies, most places it's shale, but there are some coves that are mud and sand bottom. Box anchor holds in everything I have tossed it in. Wish I would have done it sooner.

I use the larger digger anchor for my r7. I’m at table rock so it’s all rock and trees at the bottom. It holds every time unless it’s windy. On windy days I will toss a stern anchor as well to keep from moving around to much.

Yeah, at 10:1 I need to carry about 50’ total

Our lakes are 90% muck and I don’t have any chain on my danforth and it works great. I also have a mushroom anchor for the stern as the popular anchorages can get pretty packed at times.

I’m on Lake Travis outside of Austin. Mostly muck bottom. There are some sandbars but I have not been to those. I am using a danforth. I will try letting out more line but with the wind on the lake it blows a lot from side to side and the coves are crowded.

Yeah, at 10:1 I need to carry about 50’ total

For 5 feet of water just jump on and shove it in the muck.

Get the box anchor then.

What size box anchor fits in the anchor compartment? Or do you just go with the big one and store it elsewhere if it does not fit in the compartment?

In our 222 the Small Box anchor fits in the Cobalt anchor locker. It's a tight fit, but our anchor locker is small to begin with and is made only smaller by the docking lights on either side. I have to fold the anchor each time I use it, but for as well as it holds that's a small price to pay.

The small is most likely the size you will need. Keep in mind they also make a "baby" box anchor for PWC, you dont want that one, you want the small.

Steve, Add 5-6 feet of galvanized or coated chain with shackles between the anchor and the rode.(anchor line). This is a 25 dollar investment and certainly won't have any negative impact. Also as others have pointed out make sure there is enough scope. Sometimes 10: 1 is just not practical. I usually end up at 2 or 3 to 1 works well with my Richter anchor.

Box anchor ordered. Talked to the owner today for a while. Nice guy. He recommended I go with a large. I will let you know how it works.
