What? That’s a costly mistake. Any more specifics on this Dturn?

Hey All,

They built the stock boat R5 specs as opposed to my custom order. It was an honest mistake!
I am looking at used boats now! What's your opinion of the Cobalt 2015 A28 vs 2018 Chap 287ssx?

Thanks- Maybe start a new thread for this!

Derek, is Cobalt not able to slip your custom R5 order to the top of the build list based upon their mistake? 🤔

The A series rocks. I would personally get any Cobalt before a chap in that size, chap is a good boat but still.
Find a used r5 then? What was the diff in the stk vs what your custom was?

Hey All,

The Cobalt A28 I looked at was amazingly beautiful but a boat that was beat to death by the owner! Long story short we bought a 2018 Chaparral 287SSX. Thanks for all your input!

Thanks! I will get some better pics once I get it back to my stable and give her a good detail. The boat is powered with the volvo 6.2 380/w/Capt call. So if anyone comes up with the receipe to bring her to 430hp please let me know as its a big heavy boat.

I have a 2018 R5 with the 350 Volvo DP, with trim tabs. I boat on Lake Ontario, Irondequoit Bay., and in the 1000 Islands. In July we went 75 miles on Lake Ontario, 115 miles total each way up to Wellesley Island from Irondequoit Bay. For the first hour of the trip, we were heading directly into 3 to 4 foot waves. I forced the nose down with the trim tabs to slice through, 18 to 20 mph was very comfortable. I took it up to 25 mph for a bit. My grandsons weren't happy at that speed. Slowed back down to 18. It's planing at 18 mph with the tabs down. Anything smaller it just flattens, even at 40 mph. I'm very happy with the R5. It also planes quickly and has great mid range punch with the 350 Volvo with F6 props. I also have a 1984 19BR with 24 degree deadrise. It's good in the rough stuff for a smaller boat. But no comparison with the R5.
