I'm trading my 430hp in for a 240 or the new 300.Stagdad wrote: Wed Feb 05, 2020 8:58 am That sounds like the factory put a 300 sticker on and accidentally upgraded you to 350 HP !

Re: 220S
I haven't really pushed her to acquire true top-end number yet, but I know she will do 50 with 4 of us (and dog) on the boat! Not sure where fuel level was, but we don't really have a ton of gear on board. 60+ sounds crazy fast!!?
My last boat (Chaparral) was around 3 feet shorter and at least 4 inches narrower (quite a bit lighter too). It would just barely touch 50 under ideal conditions. It was a 270hp Volvo SX (single prop) drive. My 220S with 350 MAG may only be 30 more hp, but the torque increase is substantial. Combine that with the Bravo III drive's dual props and it seems twice as powerful!

Re: 220S
I had a 2004 Cobalt 200 with that same package. 350 mag and b3 and 54 was top. It even had a issue getting on plane. The new 220s hull is much diff then that 200.
Not sure why, it could have just been a weak engine. It didn't have much. My 350 mag and alpha 1 in my crownline 202 was a rocket and a stump puller. Did 63. Totally diff flat hull then a cobalt. Every engine is so diff from one another.

Re: 220S
I also had a 2008 200 with the same power, and it wasn't as fast as the 220S either; fastest I got that one was about 57. To start with the old 200 weighs at least 200 pounds more than the current 220S, and the 220's lower profile would also have an effect on wind resistance. Just me in the boat in both cases.Big Block Power wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2020 5:54 pm I had a 2004 Cobalt 200 with that same package. 350 mag and b3 and 54 was top. It even had a issue getting on plane. Re: 220S
Yea I haven't been in a new 220 in the water other than waking on it. I would be interested in knowing how it rides compared to the old style like mine. The 200 rode great it was just a bit too tight for us. The 220 rides alot like that one. The 222 well to me it was just too boring. Ride is great just boring. Sorry NautiRed Herring55 wrote: Tue Feb 18, 2020 6:32 pmI also had a 2008 200 with the same power, and it wasn't as fast as the 220S either; fastest I got that one was about 57. About right. Mine with a 280 Volvo DP with 2 on board is about 49-50 using dash gauge (not gps).

Re: 220S
How are you guys seeing over 50?
I have a 2021 220s with the Merc 6.2 300
I can't really seem to get above 46-48?
Also, anybody added the garmin unit after the fact?

I think the 300s are grossly under propped. Our engine doesn't even feel like its in gear when I get on it. The boat pops out of the water and were on plane and topped out in a blink

Re: 220S
So WHY... would I event want a 300HP if it's not propped correctly. Is this a bad pairing or design by Cobalt. It seems that there is a big engine that isn't being used to it's fullest potential.

Re: 220S
I don't know if "propped correctly" is the proper phrase. Is it propped correctly for the way you want to use boat? I'm guessing not. Top end speed vs. quickness out of the hole. I know people that pull skiers that will sacrifice top end for quickness. I know people that carry two or more props.
It's like a gear ratio in a car. If you're racing a quarter mile, you want a different ratio than you would if you want top end speed.
