CS22 Specs
Hello,
I have been a fan of cobalt boats for years and after a long search for our first family boat (fishing boats prior), I am only days away from making my first cobalt purchase (yes, I will post pics when it arrives!). Thank you to everyone on the forum, reading through posts over the last few months has provided me with a lot of great guidance and detail. That said, before I put a deposit down on my 2020 CS22 build order, I wanted to share my current specs and see if there was anything missing or an added option that others didn't really feel all that useful. The primary use of the boat will be on a lake tubing with kids, a little wakeboarding/skiing, but mostly enjoying being on the water with the family. The boat will be on a lift when not in the water.
Here are the specs (the bold options are the two that I might cut, hard to tell the value):
2020 CS22
Volvo V6-280C-G DP
Bow Tonneau Cover
Cockpit Tonneau Cover
Rudder Indicator
Stereo Remote, Transom
White Arch, Alum, Folding w/Bimini
Docking Lights-Stainless Steel
Fender Clips w/Line (4)
Swim Platform Transom Lighting
Aft Filler Cushion
Bow Center Cushion
Floor Covering, Sea Grass
LED Interior Accent Lighting (RGB)
Battery Switch, Dual w/ACR
Three Color w/Swim Platform Accent

Re: CS22 Specs
Congrats and welcome. How much more is it to go to a v8? 22 ft boat is a good size boat for a v6. I get it. No I don't. Transom trim switch.Yes your on a lift but still nice to have. Bow filler cushion. Both filler cushions are a plus. You will get your money back in 10 years when you sell it.
So where will you be doing your boating?
Colors? Trailer?
On a lift I would get a mooring cover. It's nice just to throw 1 cover on and not snap and unsnap everytime.

Re: CS22 Specs
Congratulations going forward.
You checked all the right boxes so stay with them. As BBP said your resale value will improve as well.
Plus the $3,900 upgrade to a base V8 version is definitely worth the performance and noticeable smoother operation. ( we’ve heard more complaints on V6 vibrations talked about here).
Sounds like she’s gonna be a Beauty.

Hey caddisdrew, welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!
You have optioned her out almost perfectly IMHO. Like the others mentioned, I would consider the V8 (you will never regret that) and the transom trim remote. It’s a great option to have even while using a lift. Sometimes I’ll even start to put the outdrive down when I’m pushing our Cobalt out of the shallows after the family is done swimming at the beach. Then u just hop up on the boat and start her up with no hesitation and no gimbal bearing wear. It’s also nice to be able to quickly raise and lower it from outside the boat while cleaning or working near the transom.
Oh, and if you go with a V8, now you have to add the switchable Captain’s Call exhaust.
Again welcome aboard mate!

Re: CS22 Specs
Hi caddisdrew,
I like all of your options, but I would also consider a VP300 DP for this boat. In addition to the increase in power and smoothness, the Volvo V8s have EVC controls which make it much easier to make micro adjustments to throttle when towing the kids on skis, wakeboards, etc. The manual throttle control on the last Cobalt I had (210 with V6 280 DP) was not smooth and made it difficult to adjust speed while pulling my kids on skis. It was a major gripe for me and happily, my 2019 R3 with V8 350 DP EVC has very smooth throttle control and the lever "resistance" is adjustable.

Re: CS22 Specs
Nicely specced boat. I didn't get dual batteries, and now wish I had - I have a battery tray, switch, crimper, etc.. ready for a bit of a project next summer instead.
I did get a V8 with duo props on my 210, but it's the famously apparently-underpowered V8-225 that's the same engine as the V8-300 up until the last few mph on the top end. The torque and hole shot of the big V8 are nice, and don't feel overpowered for the boat.

Re: CS22 Specs
consider the trim remote. WIth the flip down step, it probably cant clear the engine unless it is put down some. so if you are in a shallow area it helps to be able to play with the amount of trim if people want to use step and then use switch to put it back up so your boat doesnt bounch off bottom. boat sounds like it will be great! what lake are you on?

Re: CS22 Specs
I'm sure all of these engines are fine. My 2016 210 had the V6-280 and had an amazing time to plane (2.7 seconds), which put it ahead of the earlier generation V8-270. I think the new generation V8 is quite a bit different from the 2015 and earlier, with respect variable valve timing and torque, but I'm not an engineer - its just what the Cobalt rep told me at the boat show.jhnmdahl wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2020 11:31 am I did get a V8 with duo props on my 210, but it's the famously apparently-underpowered V8-225 that's the same engine as the V8-300 up until the last few mph on the top end.

Re: CS22 Specs
I have a 2019 CS22 with vp240 DP. I am in Arizona with little elevation and the motor is adequate. Tops out at 47 with two adults (43-44 with 6) and gets to 40 quickly. I’ve wakeboarded behind it with 4 adults no problem and I’m 200 lbs. The 280 will give you a bit more on top end. If I could go back, I would have got the V8 just cuz I love power and great for resale but it is definitely well powered for the size and weight of boat. You will be more than happy but if you have a little more to spend, I’d do it.

But yeah he should get the V8.
Also CC isn't a factory option on the CS series....but I bet if we made a phone call to Rick he would happily cut a few holes....

No no, we are calling Rick, we need someone who actually works at Cobalt. The factory isn't going to let YT come in and cut holes.Big Block Power wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2020 6:44 pmKATENautiGirl wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2020 6:33 pmThats better, but really if you are taking lessons from me we are all in trouble.Big Block Power wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2020 6:28 pm

Re: CS22 Specs
For sure. I do wish I had one of the newer VVT engines that didn't need so much displacement to have torque across the rpm range (the new V8-300 is 5.3L instead of my 5.7L), along with fresh water cooling and all the other bells and whistles, but my engine has been flawless so I can't complain too much.BobRae99 wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2020 3:16 pmI'm sure all of these engines are fine.
