R-30 or Formula 310??

TG I will be interested in your thoughts about your boats condition after being on the water all winter? I tried that with my 246 and have since always trailer ed my boats and put them in my garage at my lake house.

Luckily I’m in an oversized slip 12x32 and the harbor is really good about keeping critters off the docks. Last spring my 262 looked as I left it in the fall. I will pay probably every other year to have it yanked out of the water and the hull cleaned really well. But luckily we boat a clean lake and it’s not much of an issue.

But for me it’s a non issue. I’d rather keep it there than having to maintain a trailer just for it to sit on in the winter.

It was the only 282 that Cobalt built with twin 502's . This guy had it custom made and went to Neodesha for a week to watch the boat get built.
He lost the boat in a divorce settlement. Should have bought that boat and had a one of a kind Cobalt. Oh well

Heard about the Blue motor one. Its ok pal.. were still buddies. We forgive you Were still Trying to figure out who got the 30SC with twin 450R we saw last year at Cobalt. See another unicorn going somewhere

That is what has always intrigued me about going with egg beaters should the day come I decide I want something else. How can Cobalt tell you they can’t fit a 450r compared to a 350 verado?

I know when I asked about a 520 in my r7 the dealer and cobalt said No

Obviously either Cobalt was curious to test one but being it was before they publicly released that engine ...

TGrace and CMatt That's one sad thing that went out the window when Cobalt sold. Pack and Packson would build you a custom boat as along as you had the cash! Like the 282 with blue motors and the 343 with the I think wasn't it twin 700 Mercury racing engines?? Cain't remember?

Especially when the 450R is only 21 pounds heavier than the 400R. Merc has a winner here with 40% greater torque than the 400R and I'm sure soon we'll be seeing lots of twin and triple 450R's on the back of the 30'-50' center consoles.

I liked having a exterior painted Boat for a few years. I was terrified of scratching it like a car but boy was it durable! plus it cleaned up easy .

Formula is know for that imron paint process that even 15 years old and they look terrific!

The side saddle front passenger seat is great with another couple along but awkward with anyone else IMHO.
Formula has offshore Don Aranow ( Donzi/ Cigarette/ Magnum ) so the thinking of a well built tough heavy boat follows it to today’s design.
It’s offshore plus comfort design makes it a luxury wave crusher.

The Cobalt has its obvious history as the R30 is a sexy boat!! A R7 with expansion .... as the lines are more modern. Let’s see what changes in 2021? Maybe it’s suddenly a rebadged and shaped A29 or a design close to it with twins.

She is lower slung in the water, and the layout is more contemporary. She is big and gelcoat so my color choice is also All white with a boot stripe.
This would keep my cleaning addiction to a minimum .
The hydraulic swim platform is awesome for lounging without a pad, and If components for the platform are serviceable in the future I’m not afraid to have it not work.

So I’m torn as they both possess easy to land on wants..

Let take a ride in each. I still dig yours pal!

With a Single engine..
DA and CMATT Why would Cobalt have a sea trial with a single engine on a R30? That config would be a bitch to dock especially with any wind.

I know everyone is looking for larger engines and that in today's world weight is not really a factor as the engine technology is so much better. Unlikely, but could it be that Cobalt does not feel comfortable with the extra power stressing the hull or causing structural issues. I mean let's be honest, you could strap one of those 450's onto a jonboat once..... Just a thought.

Great Thought. Power vs weight not only equals speed but efficient ability to maintain speed with less stress.
I’m saying this on Nitro cold brew and yes I’ll ride with you on the tracker 175txw.

TableR With this C-19 crap my business is in the dumpster. So just trying to survive on my R-7.
No really my Grandfather and Dad always said "If you can't pay cash for a deprecating asset you can't afford it".

I love my 2019 R30, I’m on Lake Tahoe and with the big waves I can cross the lake comfortably. I have the twin 380 pentas and I get up to 50 mph. The rear deck is awesome as well. No complaints about this boat, the joystick control is a must.

We have a 2021 R30 with 350 VP's. A few weeks ago we were able to get her up to 57 MPH lightly loaded on Table Rock. The twin 12" garmins are the bomb. Also we and our guests spend most of our time coving out and chilling on that oversized transom / swim deck and , for us, it is not too large. And I agree with DLB....this boat should have a joystick regardless of the amount of boating experience the captain has. Just sayin... Dan
