Anyone waiting for one of the 4, 6 or 8's?

I would be surprised if Cobalt stopped producing Forward Drive Surf versions of their R series boats. I think you are missing their intended purpose. You are correct, the Cobalt surf models do not produce a wave of the same quality as a dedicated surf boat. They are not designed to. Cobalt designed a boat that you can surf behind when you want to, but that also rides like a traditional bow rider when the tanks are empty.

If you have ever ridden across a lake in a Malibu you know they ride like crap, empty tanks or not. The majority of people I know surf for a few hours in the morning and then want to enjoy a boat ride of two across the lake in the afternoon. They are not professional wake surfers and can deal with a lesser quality wave in exchange for a better riding boat.

I think you are missing my point. I don't believe the R6 would be a dedicated surf boat as that would require a different hull design than the current R5. Given that I've been told by Cobalt that the R5 will be phased out, an R6 Surf only boat as suggested earlier doesn't make sense. The R series boats are the bread and butter of the Cobalt lineup and not having a stern drive 25' boat would leave a big hole. I'm betting the R6 will be an updated R5 (hull, interior, etc.) that will improve its dual purpose (stern/surf) performance. I guess we'll know in a few months.

Agree, the R6 wont be a dedicated surf boat, but they will offer an R6 with the Forward drive and surf package. We on the same page now?

Speculating about new boats is always fun. I agree. I think it will be a dual purpose platform. I'm sure we'll know by spring.

I think Cobalt has no choice but to offer more outboards.

I agree Tusc. I would think it could make them a true salt water option. It would be easy to add the coveted “twins” and maintenance would be very simple compared to an inboard. I’m not really a fan of the look of outboards on a bow rider but I get the versatility. Also would think it’s easier to install at the factory. We should know in about 18 months I guess.

Now, let’s assume you could put twins on something the size of an R5. What’s the smallest twin configuration you would accept (trying to be serious with this question). 175? 200, 250?

If your giving me up to a 250 then twin 250s it is. I think twin 300s would be better and Avail. But you know I won't stop there. Twin 450s!! Merc of course.

I’m warming up to the idea of outboards. I think if I was in the 30ft market I would look at the 30sc before the R30. Where I’m at I could extend my boating season till pretty much Christmas with outboards. Heck it’s going to be almost 70 at Trl on Christmas. And be back out early March. But they need to figure out how to give you a useable swim platform. That’s why I said twins on a 27-28ft

Having my second Twin engine boat the obvious parking like a tank is a fun feature. But the effortless cruise speed and less strain felt is worth it.
Oh and 16 cylinders is awesome with CC.

Yes.. extended platforms with deep insets for the egg beaters are becoming more common. You can almost stern in and the sides are seemingly getting bigger.

Plus they’ll throw a rooster tail if we go 400R with the shortys.
