What Dumb thing did you do to your boat?

Well Couple weeks ago, was pulling the boat out of the barn. DId not notice that after I opened the door, it closed down a little. hooked up the Boat (Bimini Top fully deployed) and pulled out. got out of the truck and went inside. Came out with the wife and she is looking at the barn saying what happened to the door? Crud...

I can say the Factory Bimini top is sturdy, tore up the door, but also bent the front bow a bit....

Door is fixed, still trying to figure out how to get the from bow replaced.

Take it to a frame or tubing shop. They can probably bend it back to where it needs to be. And sorry to hear about your misfortune!

Not boat related, but irritating nonetheless... In the past two days I've managed to put a dent in my truck and almost tear the bumper off my car. Grrr....
That's for getting in a hurry and not paying attention.

Was feeling adventurous. Let's find that cove (at an unfamiliar lake). No nav? No problem. The cove's at MMx. We're at MMy. And I know the formula: rt=d. At the "right" time, we stop at the mouth of the cove. Scan the horizon. Looks right. This has to be "that cove." Throttle up. Then dead stop. And the sick feeling that makes skeg-dragging feel like mild indigestion. Grounded!

Turns out we were 5 miles from "that cove." I blame the speedometer.

On the ‘92 222 I owned it had a raw water pickup in the hull, forgot to open the valve, got about 300 yards from the marina, alarm went off, temp was pegged...

Sat there for a second an opened the valve crossed my fingers the 100 degree difference in water would not crack anything... Got lucky that time.

Well folks...reading through pages and pages of old posts and soaking up knowledge and laughs....in my younger days when I was less wise than I am now....miserable marriage...preparing for divorce...and was already drinking at the houseboat. Had parked the Monterey for the evening...wind had changed a bit and was blowing all kinds of surface crap into the back end of the houseboat where the kids swim and go down the slide. Using my stupidity to its fullest...I decided I should take the ski boat and trim the bow up to make a giant wake to “wash” the crap away...starting spinning donuts essentially. Didn’t attach my lanyard...yes there’s a reason for it...lost my balance and hit my head...knocked out cold! All the while the boat continues to spin circles...came to in a couple seconds and had enough sense to get control back and shut things down. Docked the boat along side the houseboat. Ex insisted on a trip to the lake medical clinic...as we left the cove with her driving a boat she knew nothing about (wouldn’t learn) she came across a couple fisherman. They took over driving and then immediately came upon a park service boat who loaded me up and took me to the docks, ambulance waiting and a ride to the clinic. Diagnosed with a full blown concussion regardless of how hard headed I am...and released. Problem? It was now around 8 pm and park service refused to take me back to our houseboat. The fisherman had returned my Monterey to the houseboat when park service took over. Got a ride to the dock and finally convinced another fisherman to run ex and I back to the houseboat...about a 7 mile run in his jet boat. Gave him $100 cash for his trouble...got there and sent him on his way with enough light to get himself back to his camping spot. Learned then that when the boat is off for the evening and cocktails begin...keys don’t get turned regardless. No damage to boat in this case but could have been a disaster...lesson learned and don’t even enjoy a beer during the day when running the boat. I’m the last one to enjoy an evening cocktail but that’s ok.

As far as dumb things to the boat...let my ex father in law drive it in while I was slipping the houseboat. He decided he could turn a 19.5’ Monterey around in a slip 18’ wide...caught the rear corner of the transom on a bolt sticking out and took a nice chip out of it. Chip was there the day I sold it.
