Waste Smell.

Guys,
I'm ready to order a new R7, and I have some remaining questions.
Our last boat had a porti-potty that we never used once. We boat on a lake and there are facilities available on land.
I will probably own this boat for at least 10 years, so I'm betting our bladders wont hold up as well as they once did so the electric potty is a possibility.

I'm not one to like a permanent smelly waste tank on board, especially on a day boat. Electric, or the cheap suck out model both will have a tank or hoses at the very least that will run waste in them. So the question is this, how well does a waste system hold up over time, and those who have it, have you ever smelled anything resembling waste on the boat as the boat ages?
Maintenance?
No one would enjoy dealing with manual dump out, but I would rather dump than not have a maintenance issue down the road if the system doesn't remain fully intact.

I haven't owned a boat with a porta potty, but have been on several boats with both types and never found an unpleasant smell other than perhaps when actually using it. There may be some cleanup and repair if something fails, but it's hardly the end of the world. I'd pick whichever fits your needs for frequency and ease of use the best and not worry, especially if it's only going to be for occasional urine.

Vacuflush, put twice as much waste chemical as they say. Pump out before it gets full, overflow is the enemy. Pump out monthly if hot climate. Flush tank at end of season or if you smell anything. There is a filter on the vent that should get changed every few years. I have a 2007 302. Been running fine for 10 years.

We never use them but keep them ready ..

Last boat rv chemicals small ratio. no problem.. This 282 the head is different and the valve seals better and zero odor.. it appears the different Heads can vent differently. not sure what option on the new ones are but I would imagine they change every few years.

Common mod for people that cruise is to add a good quality inline filter. This one is very popular. A bit more money upfront, but cheap to refill.

No option for me as I didn't want to manually dump a porta (not that there's anything wrong with that!). 2nd one I've had but I pump it out frequently, er, the Marina staff do it. We use it every time out.

We use it a LOT. worth every penny.

Yesterday, we ran up to Buffalo and boated the Niagara river. Basically, we went to the west river around Grand Island, and shut it off. The current took us for literally 6 miles until we had to start it up before we ran into Navy Island.
Meanwhile, no issues with holding our water... what a perfect afternoon with perfect weather.
