The excitement of the day was tempered by anxiety over the conditions in the marina. Where I moor, there is growth, but not enough to foul the props or clog the cooling intakes - for now. As for navigating to the slip, I had no problems and no anxiety. A combination of one seasons experience under my belt, a much wider slip and a more direct approach makes for a problem free docking.

Once out on the lake, all of the marina problems seemed to melt away.

You are correct tabs do nothing when the boat is idling. They really only help once you have planed out. I use them all the time on the r7. Due to the high freeboard and the seat configuration.

You are correct tabs do nothing when the boat is idling. They really only help once you have planed out. I use them all the time on the r7. Due to the high freeboard and the seat configuration.

That is what I was getting at. I noticed the port list due to the uneven weight loading that continued when the boat was up on plane. If it bothers me moving forward, I'll just have the kit installed by the dealer. I appreciate that they don't do anything until the boat gets up on plane.

I just came back after an hour on the lake. Cruised a few miles to a bay we normally waterski in and shut off the motor to float for a bit in about 7' of water. I made the mistake of starting the engine before the Garmin units booted up to show the depth and freaked when I saw 2'. There must be a sand bar in the area. I put the drive in neutral and trimmed up 50%. We could see the sand below the boat but it seems a distance away so with the drive trimmed up I idled towards deeper water. No harm was done, but a reminder lesson. I'm thinking the depth sounder must be set from the bottom point of the drive but I'll check with the dealer. If the boat was actually in 2' of water below the hull, the props should have hit bottom with the drive down. I double checked the props and they are fine (we didn't hear anything anyway.

On the way out of the marina, before casting off, a cabin cruiser in the traffic channel got too far to the left side of the channel and hit bottom. A guy opposite my slip shouted out to the captain that I was getting ready to head out and could give him a tow. There was no chance of me doing that with an engine with less than 2 hours on it and I told him so. The captain eventually got someone on shore to push him off with a long stick. He got stuck two more times before heading out. On the way, he cleaned up a fair bit of the plant growth in the channel. My thanks to him.

Bob why get worried about the depth if you weren't moving. 2 feet heck you deep water boaters. I want to know how deep it is from the water line of the boat so when I jump in it's not way over my head. Yes that's only 4ft Yt! Yea trim up and go. I'm sure you can adjust your depth finder to whatever offset you want. Is the Garmin updated with the latest software so it loads fast? Did the fuel calibrating work. How long did that take them. Is your channel marked or just luck of the draw you have rocks or stumps on each side of the channel. Yecks!!

I’d like to know if there is a way for the Grmin to boot up a little faster and I don’t have to hit the “Agree” icon to get it going every time. It takes a good 20-30 seconds for it to boot once you turn the key.

the depth finder puck is right below the motor in the engine bay you can see it. So the depth is from the bottom of the hull.

What software version is your garmins on? Mine were on version 12 from the factory and the boot time was painfully slow. If they aren't on version 15 I would suggest doing the upgrade. It took about 15 minutes and it just loads on a micro sd card. Stick it in the left garmin and it will sense the upgrade right away.

Bob that is a awesome looking R3! I see your getting your fenders dialed in so let’s get the some covers.
Don’t sweat the tabs as of yet although I know the R series seem to have more seating on the Port side so it may be an add if you’re going out with a lot of people.
This higher freeboard V will lean into the wind naturally so tabs help that as well.

I see the transducer location, but the manual says you can adjust to read from the bottom of the hull or add an offset to read from the lowest point on the boat. This is particularly useful when the system is installed on a sailboat (keelboat) that draws and additional 4’ with the keel. It avoids having to do a math calculation. So, I just need to see how it is set up. In any event, I need to stay away from shallow water.

I would drive over there in your sea doo and measure it like you did at the marina so you know where that sandbar is.

You know sometimes it's fun to stand while your anchored.

It’s a good point. I’ll need a new stick though, the extendable Hobie Cat Hotstick I used before is at the bottom of the lake. It flew out of the Sea Doos footwell when my daughter said let’s go back fast and I hit the throttle. We went forward, but the hotstick didnt.

As to playing on the sandbar, it’s about 1/2 mile off shore and don’t know how much of it is sand and how much is rock, but I’ll do a survey with the Sea Doo.

Did you lose things like fuel calibration and other config after upgrading the firmware?

Looks like version 15.10 came out a few weeks ago.

Changes made from version 15.00 to 15.10:
Fixed an issue where the autopilot bar could lose highlight when using a GRID.
Other improvements and bug fixes.
