Re: Thinking of a new tow vehicle.
Yea my 2010 sub has the 3.02 gears. Yea a bit sluggish towing but did ok unnecessary you get over 72. Under that in in the had and getting 8mpg. Over that I'm very 10.
We got a denali to test drive today the wife hated the seats hard as a rock and this trans shifted like crap. So we will keep looking. I want a new body style and 3.42. The actually does not want leather which puts us in a slt. But if I find something that works then she will drive it. It's her daily driver. We don't need TV monitors anymore so that's not a big deal. Just needs the towing package. No hurries. Nothing wrong with our truck other than rust. That just started this year. Now that I saw it I see it on every sub or yukon on the road. Argg
It's like put money to that or towards a new vehicle.

Well, we both live in the salty north.. we have about 6 years before rust starts if the body is neglected. It’s extra bad when you park it in a warm garage where salt stays activated. I have hot water in our garage and I constantly flush, especially the upper wheel wells and chassis during the winter. Grime loves to cake up at the top inner lip of the wheel wells. That has to be constantly flushed to not rust.
The only suggestion I can make is to strongly consider the 6.2L in either a Denali or Escalade with the 8 speed. Lots of them should be coming off lease now. The engine is a gas monster that will not disappoint. As far as the HID issues on the Denali, I’ve never heard of it, and we’ve owned ours since new in 15’. The truck has been super. We are ready to trade it in. My wife wants to downsize and I think she’s going to miss it..

My wife's yukon xl has the 3.08, great for gas mileage, but no good for towing anything meaningful.Johnson@H20town wrote: Tue Jun 11, 2019 1:19 pm I noticed when I test drove them that the ones without the tow package (3.08 axle ratio) were sleepy versus the Heavy Duty trailering option which bumped the ratio to 3.42. It's no rocket ship but it hauls the kids with room to spare. I did see a Hennessey upgrade for both the 5.3L and 6.2L.![]()

Yea that's exactly what we have with the sub now. But this one still sucks at gas mileage. I can barely get 16 out of it. Our 2004 18 no prob and our escalade with the 6.2 got 18. just this last time pulling I was getting 8 and it was working. You get over 72 to 75mph it will pull ok.rrfisher wrote: Fri Jun 14, 2019 3:19 pmMy wife's yukon xl has the 3.08, great for gas mileage, but no good for towing anything meaningful.Johnson@H20town wrote: Tue Jun 11, 2019 1:19 pm I noticed when I test drove them that the ones without the tow package (3.08 axle ratio) were sleepy versus the Heavy Duty trailering option which bumped the ratio to 3.42. Re: Thinking of a new tow vehicle.
Ok, how about some opinions?
I’ve always bought crew cab short box trucks, but if I stick with a SRW, I’m considering a long box. Lots of pros and cons either way, and none are a concern for me.
Length doesn’t bother me at all. So this is strictly a looks thing.
What looks better in your opinion?
Thanks.

I like Door Number 1. It’s proportional to me.

I would vote for the top one. And you wouldn’t have to be concerned about the body rusting.

Re: Thinking of a new tow vehicle.
SRW long beds always look off to me. Neighbor had a regular cab long bed, just not proportional, the quad cab makes it better but still not my style. If I didn’t need the room in the cab I’d love a regular cab short bed dually, they just look cool to me.

Re: Thinking of a new tow vehicle.
From strictly a looks standpoint on the crew cab, I like the short bed.

Well, I see its a close vote.

My wife and son agree with the SRW shorty.
I've always liked the long boxes, but it does need the DRW fenders on there to make it look right.
I'm keeping the GMC, so this truck won't see winter. I've had very good success with low mileage winter free truck resale..
