Drain plug replacement

I'm thinking it might be a good idea to carry a backup drain plug. Wondering if there is anywhere online that you might know of to pick one up?
Mine appears to be a 9/16" brass plug. I looked on Amazon etc but can't seem to find anything.
Does anyone else carry a backup just in case?

They’re NPT thread, so will measure over 1/2” if you try to gauge it.

Yes. I carry a couple spares. One in the vehicle glovebox and another in the boat. Cheap insurance.

Like John mentioned, standard 1/2” for all American made runabouts.

Our Mercury actually comes with a standard spare drain plug clipped to the engine drain hose. You may want to check if yours has that. (disregard yellow circle)...

Yep 1 in the truck and 1 in the boat. But my drain plug now is a led light so it's always attached with the wires.

Same here. One in the boat and one in the door of the truck along with a small cresent. Where to get them? They are as common as underwear. Wallymart, Costco, or just about any convenience store, gas dock or bait station on the lake.

Here is something more important that having a spare.
Get in the habit of double checking yourself for the plug, as the last thing before you get in the truck to back in on the ramp. Just like always checking your pocket for the keys before you lock the door, or checking pockets for a phone before you jump in.

I did one better than that the first year we had our boat. We got everything ready and backed the trailer in, floating the boat, only to realize the rear tie-down straps were still hooked on to the back of the boat. Our boat was floating the trailer right along with it. I no longer worry about the time it takes to do one last walk around before pulling onto the ramp to launch.

...you and me both. Happened with our first boat (Donzi) after I backed it off the trailer. I noticed the bilge pump spewing out the water while waiting for my wife.

Yelled at her to go back and get the trailer as I buzzed around the lake.

Now we have a challenge-response on the drain plug before launching.

Jeff and I agree you can never check that the plug is in enough. It's also good to just get a launch routine down and do things in the sane order every time. We have our designated jobs!
