Tried out our new umbrella holder.

Post by kas232ca »

Got one of Slideruleracer's umbrella holders for our 232. It is the screw in type. It is super well made!

Slideruleracer recommends a particular Lowe's umbrella with his instructions. Unfortunately, I didn't bring the info with me to Lowes, so I just grabbed a generic blue umbrella - mistake #1. The umbrella I grabbed is only 7.5-foot diameter, however, the one he recommends is 9-foot diameter. As you can see from the photo, the 7.5-foot is too small and doesn't angle. Will exchange for the correct one.

The umbrella fit perfectly. Realizing the 7.5-foot was too small, I was reluctant to use the set screw as to not mar the umbrella I was going to take back. Mistake #2. Even in a light breeze, the umbrella will want to take off. Luckily we caught it.

Will report back next time on boat with larger umbrella.

Looks great! I also bought one for the R5 from Slide. It’s the same mount as yours. I found a 10’ umbrella from Costco with the correct diameter and Sunbrella fabric at a great price. It’s a two piece model and Slide’s mount replaces the bottom piece. Will take some pics this weekend.

Beautiful boat, great picture, and that water is like WOw. It looks like it's been dyed!

Has anyone found a yellow one? Bought one off Amazon and looks great with the blue hull and Yellow stripe but does not fit the mount from Slideruler. Cant find a 9 or 10 footer anywhere!!

Thanks, will check it out. Don't know if 10' would interfere with the bimini though. Will also try to find the correct one at Lowe's when I return the small one.

Thanks for the update kas! I'm sorry you had issues with the umbrella fitment.. I can appreciate why Cobalt supplies their own umbrellas with their kit - as I suppose it helps prevent some of the headaches around sizing and compatibility...

To be clear - the Lowes model that is recommended for the R-series boats *may* not be a good choice for your 232. The Lowe's models take advantage of the 2 piece design where the top half can click-in to the adapter directly. On your boat, it appears that it might put the umbrella too low as you're traversing to the swim platform - though it's hard to tell from the photo - it might be OK. If that were the case you'd want to be on the lookout for is a 8' umbrella with a 1.375" diameter pole. I haven't searched much for those. Perhaps I need to start querying all of my customers and find out what umbrellas they've used and keep a list on the website... hmmm.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. The fitment is perfect. The issue is that the umbrella diameter is too small and doesn't make as much shade as a 9' would.

Edit - In fact, the kids were giving me a hard time for spending that much on a thing to hold an umbrella, but they were the first ones to park themselves on the swim deck and lounge around in the shade.

OK, will be on the lookout.

Off topic question - Do you rent a house during the winter there? Thinking about buying a place there and maybe renting to snowbirds.

I went with the 9' on my 242. I still haven't got time to take photos, but I've checked the fitment and "eye balled" the size and height. I think it will be close to perfect. Hope to get out soon and take some photos. GRRRRR. Now I know why they call it work.

We have owned a place there since the early 90's. We have it set up as a vacation rental and use Airbnb. We have rented to snowbirds every year but now the we live in Missouri, moved from So Cal, we are going to be the snowbirds. :D
