Braised... brand ... bravo... geeze how does BB find Brains?

Yes BB said it only a couple of options and brake failure on this is usually loose adjustment and the rotation wipes out the hardware. No biggie as long as your spindles didn’t suffer and score marks it will be snug again.

The underseat areas like that can be access panels to assembly items between the hulls

Big Block Power wrote: Wed Mar 27, 2019 6:24 am Very cool to see you on the water. There are numbers on the side of the brains stamped in them. Clean them real good and take a picture of them and blow them up bigger to read them. Then Google that bearing number and all of the trailer companies will have them. They really pretty much only have a couple of sizes. Order a spring and shoe kit or you can get the complete backing plate with the shoes already on them. Need help I might be able to help later today find them.
Thanks, BB. I got the brain numbers, but the seal for the inner brain is bereft of markings, but it isn't the GS6 seal that is usually paired with an L68149 and L44649 bearing set. Luckily there is a trailer supply store in town and I have the old hub and seal in hand. We should be able to figure it out. And then I buy 6 sets so I know all 4 tires have good bearings and 2 spares so I don't have to track down this seal again. . .

So not worried about the bearings. The brakes will be more fun, I'm sure there is more going on than just the one exploded hub. So I'll be going through all the brakes before we get it out again.

But the boat floats and runs. I'd rather rebuild trailer hubs than work on the boat motor and hull or floor - replacing plywood boat floors is almost as bad as drywall. So glad this boat has a fiberglass floor.

Welcome from Ohio. Funny to read the fishing vs how dear you fish on a cobalt threads on the site over the years. Very cool looking boat, hope you enjoy. Your trailer scares me. Worth just replacing the axels if you are going to have them a while? Read Chris's thread in the older boat section where he flew to MD to get his boat from AZ. Pre-shipped new parts for the old trailer he bought for the boat and had to do a ton of work before it got shipped back.

These boats are heavy, you are making a wise decision not getting back on the road until the trailer is ready.

Parts arrived for the next project. Wish me luck.
New bearings all around, new hubs for the front axle, new disc brakes for the rear axle, and new surge coupler.

Nice change over, I guess we should go wheel shopping now with some black open spoke to showcase the brakes....See it never ends.

Finally got a break from rain and responsibility and got the boat wet again.
Just a few hours on the water with the kids and some friends.
Kids all loved getting to drive the boat in circles, and then playing around on the kayaks. Sure is a good way to spend a spring Saturday.

New brakes worked great. Nothing else broke. So a very successful 2nd voyage.
Probably need to get some trailer guides because it took me longer than it should have to get the boat centered and out of the water.

Love the smile on her face Newman!

Btw, how deep was your trailer in the water while loading?
Most ramps only require 1/2 the trailer fender to be submerged for the boat to load properly. Were your trailer fenders underwater? If your trailer is in the water too deep, the back end of your boat will not load properly as it swings to the port or starboard. 🤔
