I am in the same place /w my BMW. Looking at a clutch and some VANOS (BMW Variable Valve Timing) work. The BMW is for sale.

Didn't you want a larger truck for towing anyway? I will say the 1/2 ton market is insane right now, just crazy prices on trucks. Shop around and see what makes sense for you personally.

The vanos seals you can probably do on your kitchen table, without even having to jack up the car (I did it there, but before I was married). Check out http://www.beisansystems.com/ which is where I bought the vanos seal kit at around 150k miles.

The crowd I run with usually delete the vanos (lock outs) and boost the snot out of it, have you considered that? It kills resale, and reliability, but hella fun. Win?

Well, I did a detailed exam of the water pump from above and below and no visible leakage, so that's a good thing. I'm getting the wheel bearing done next week, assuming that is what it is, which I'm pretty confident of. Outside of that, the truck is up-to-date on all maintenance and running like a top. I need to get tires in the next 5k, sot that is likely about 1k. I'm keeping an eye on the differential noises, but as the weather has warmed, the noises have significantly subsided--almost non existant, so I'll keep an eye on that. Next big hurdle is 100k which given my driving habits is should be sometime around 2024....so for now, I'm keeping the truck. I guess that's good for 2 reasons---it keeps me out of a truck payment and it keeps me out of an R5

I like where your head is at, but I am not that mechanical, and its a daily driver, and the engine is already using some oil so I dont know what kind of shape the rings are in.

So what around 15psi of boost should be good?

Thanks BBP--I gave 2 local dealerships a call based on this and neither carried Michelins....The Toyota dealer had the same deal (buy 3, 4th for $1). They were only about $40 less that Discount tire's every day price, even with the special. I'll keep looking

I loce my Pirelli scorpion verde tires. When a look. I'm a long time Michelin guy converted.

Loose rings is better for boost, 15psi will put that S50b30 at somewhere in the neighborhood of 500hp/tq , or go stage 2 and really make it hilariously fun and worthless.
