Aftermarket towers

Post by Minisoda »

Hey everyone... just planning some mods in anticipation of our 242 coming soon.

It currently has the factory Bimini. Hope nobody takes offense to this, but I personally do not like the Bimini on such a gorgeous boat. I think it cheapens it. We also will use the boat for water sports and love the idea of wakeboard/ski storage on a tower. Finally, we do want shade, and I love the look of a Bimini installed ON the ski tower. And it needs to fold down.

So... any recommendations on folding tower with Bimini? Is it a whole new install or can we possibly use some of the Bimini mounting points?

I’ve taken a look at the Samson towers and they look nice. I’d rather pay a bit for a really nice clean looking tower.

Thanks!

So Samson is who makes the towers for Cobalt. So I’d say if you want it to look as close to OEM as possible that is the way to go. I agree I’d never buy a boat without a tower. But I understand the ones that get the Bimini that tow and store the boat all the time.

I’d go as stock as possible. IMO, I would go with a tower supplied by Cobalt and not aftermarket, unless you can get the exact same piece as stock from aftermarket. Anything non-stock will stick out like a black eye to a potential Cobalt buyer who knows what he/she is looking at.

meh, there are several high quality aftermarket towers that look great on a Cobalt, and if properly installed shouldn't detract from the value of the boat. Free Ride, Airborn, and Assault all make Cobalt specific towers that actually look better than the factory one IMO.

Only difference is if the Samson matches up to the backing plates in the boat already. Not sure what year the 242 is but if it is reinforced where the factory put it already, great

Also, if u want more of a stoke look without buying directly from cobalt, they will customize somewhat

Soda,
First of all congratulations on your 242, I’m sure you will love it.
I hear you and I feel exactly the same.
Last summer I bought a slightly used 24sd (27 hrs) and it came with a bimini top only. After seeing a few I fell in love with the look of the factory tower and contacted Sampson.
They informed me they would have to get permission from Cobalt to reproduce my tower and sell it to me. They were extremely nice and accommodating. After about a week I received an e-mail from Scott Parnell informing me that they had indeed granted permission. (I got the impression that he was a little surprised). I was then passed off to Tija Medina and she sent me a Sunbrella swatch packet so I could pick out my color for the integrated bimini. After making my color choice and going over a few options I placed my order. I was informed it would take about 6-8 weeks to build and ship. It was delivered to my dealer yesterday and I can’t wait to see it after installation.
