The seal on your power steering pump is likely the culprit. Fifty bucks for a new seal and bearing kit to have it rebuilt or $300 for a new one. It's an easy fix.

Yeah, that is what I am thinking. Also need to first make sure the lines are secure. At least it looks easy to get to.

Spent Saturday and Sunday at the lake. Lot's of spring breakers. Wife wouldn't let me take pictures.

I don't think it's a power steering leak now, I think it's an oil leak from the front and flinging. Maybe timing cover. Also saw a few drops of water from behind the impeller housing. At least the leaks are near each other.

Saw the flight school doing seaplane training yesterday.

Found the leak(s). It's a trifecta! It's a power steering leak AND an oil leak AND a water leak. Power steering leak at the actuator and oil leak from behind the harmonic balancer. The mechanic found a groove in the harmonic balancer, so that is getting replaced along with a new seal. The steering actuator is being replaced as well. It is at a VP dealer, so rebuilding was not offered. The seal behind the impeller was going bad, so that was replaced. The water pump bearings were OK. Now we will have a pretty bilge.

Also went ahead and replaced the thermostat. I saw there was a service bulletin for seawater cooled motors to move to a 160f thermostat when changing instead of the original 140f.

The mechanic also suggested a new serpentine belt since this one was oil soaked. Will keep the old one as a spare.

I am thinking that these issues are due to the boat only having 100 hours when I bought it. Not too many for a 12-year-old boat. Additionally, the block was replaced by a Jasper rebuild at some point due to the original freezing.

Now if I could just find the stern light...

Thanks! Will test out the fixes in a couple of weeks.

I also want to install a fishfinder / Chartplotter to: A. Catch some fish (no, they aren't coming in the boat) B. Try not to hit rocks at Lake Powell due to the super low water level. Brand suggestions? Garmin, Lowrance, Raymarine...

I had a simrad unit on my old boat. Only thing I didn’t like about the simrad is its a transom mount transducer. So you have to drill a hole through the transom for it.

My new boat has a garmin unit and so far I love it. As far as a nav tool it is awesome. Shows all your tracks as you boat so you can easily nav back to where you started. As far as a fish finder I cannot comment on either because I don’t fish off it.
