Boat on trailer length R5?

Post by sailor55330 »

Anyone happen to know the overall length of their R5 on a trailer?

I'm bored and have idle time which leads to internet surfing which leads to....oh boy..

Anyone?

Thanks

Depends entirely on the trailer.
Extended tongue, swing tongue, trailer length are all factors.
For instance, my R7/trailer measures 34’ long. Extra long trailer to make room for a bow ladder and extended tongue to keep my truck out of the water.

Other R7 trailer combos run 30’ long, and you can cut off even more length with a swing tongue.
Figure about 3-4’ Of outdrive hanging over the end.
My best guess would be somewhere around 27’ long.

28 Feet with no foldable tongue. Trailer mfg can vary.

Hmmm...with lengthy of the boat listed at 27.5ft for an R7, I'd have thought longer. My R3 on trailer is longer than that. Here's a shot with the tongue folded
IMG_0865.JPG
Idle minds are wondering if an r5 on a trailer fits in my driveway...I'm 50/50 as to what I want the answer to be....Winter is a dangerous time.

Also, I need to add a safety chain to the above front end. The trailer only came with a tie down rachet strap. Not sure where/how to add the safety chain to the trailer in this case. I think there are some brackets, but not that seem very sturdy. Ideas?

Yea I think I'm at 27 or 28 now. I wonder if your r3 will fit in my garage. Lol
The strap is fine. Why add a chain.

I took my chain off and only run a boatbuckel strap. No need for chain.

I think the height might be a problem....oh wait, no tower, you'll be fine!

As for the boatbuckle vs chain...well, the boatbuckle holds the boat down from bouncing but in an emergency, my guess is the web strap will do little to keep the boat connected in any fashion. Chain (at least in my feeble mind) has a higher breaking strength.

Just don't let it chip my trailer.

I added a heavy safety bow chain to mine. I've got the winch strap along with the boatbuckle that pulls straight down, along with a couple more boatbuckles at the rear. The chain is to keep the boat off of us if some drunk causes an accident.
In steel I trust.
Between all of them, the boat's not going anywhere.

Let me add to check your "Ball Capacity" as I run a 2 5/16 like a lot of you.

There commonly only rated 4-6000 lbs and can snap in a collision or in general wear. I have a 10,000 Ball now after being educated years ago watching a stacker car trailer snap one off coming to a normal stop. Yes the they take a larger hitch hole center but worth seeking them out.

So take at look at your balls  . (am I banned?) The new 2" smaller tongue trailers are also available in 10,000 pound capacity as well.

Good call on the hitch ball rating. I looked at mine earlier this summer and ended up switching from a 6000lb ball to a 7500 ball.
