Del Mar Captain's Chair?

Post by Cobaltfan »

Does anyone have the Del Mar Captain's Chair option? Is it that much better than the regular Captain's Chair? My *new to me* 2016 R5 doesn't have it, and I'm wondering if it's something worth pursuing to see if it could still be ordered from Cobalt? I like the look with the stainless sides and headrest, but I'm wondering if those stainless steel sides get hot in the sun?

Thanks CF.... I have now been educated on Del Mar CChairs! I like the look too, but you're right. Stainless may get hot depending on your location. Let's see who responds.

Just guessing, but I'm going to say you could nearly buy a houseful of furniture for what that chair probably costs by itself. 😁 Not that Cobalt would ever mark something up ridiculously high...

I am going to go out on a limb here and say it is slightly more than the $1200 umbrella

It’s fancier, but personally I wouldn’t replace what you have. Cobalt will rape you. The Del Mar seat was standard issue when we ordered.

I have the Del Mar seat and honestly have never had an issue with the SS. Granted, we do keep our bimini up 90% of the time.

I agree, never a thought or an issue. Stainless doesn’t seem to get hot at all, but we live in the north.

On a related topic, when I sat in a Del Mar chair (now standard) at the boat show I found that it was rocking a bit on its base. the Cobalt guy said that the levers to allow the seat to swivel and rotate are now on the side so you have more convenience, but the seat isn't as firmly "locked in place" (my words).

I'd think it would be irritating to have the seat move around under you as the boat is bouncing around. Can you share your experience with the seat?
