Night time on the docks is indeed magical. As is waking up on the water.

This is fun! We've bought and helped to buy boats, cars, trucks, pieces and parts. But we've never bought a house!

We've owned a lake front condo and now a lake house. There are pros and cons to each, but we far and away prefer the lake house, especially with the age of our children now, who are young adults with an entourage. OUr lake house is 55 minutes door to door from our primary residence. If it were 5 hours away, I think the condo would be the better option. When we owned the condo, it was "lock and leave" until next weekend. Even though I farm out most of the heavy lifting, I still have to make time to tend to household projects at the house. It actually feels like less work at the lake house for some reason. I actually sort of enjoy the projects. Conversely, I just about rather take a beating than do projects at the primary house.

In any event, the lake house and the condo before (the boat) has been the focal point for many good times with family and friends. Can't see not having one now. Good luck and happy house hunting.

5 hrs is to far if you have any other option. Lake life...………...you will love and not want to leave!

I grew up with a Lake Home and now have the responsibility of maintaining it. Although more work than a rental, the year round memories and access are well worth the payout IMHO. The key is use. The more you use the better you feel about the investment. Yes, it is an investment same as you primary home. The most important thing to consider is the ease of location. The easier it is to use the more you will use. Mine is less than 1 1/2 hours drive each way and is perfect for me. Everyone’s input here has been good and this is a big decision but not one that is life threatening.

We’ve spent a lot of time at our lake home - 46 days since it was completed 105 days ago. Don’t discount the quiet time with family and friends when the days turn cooler. We are headed up on Friday with friends again this weekend.

Here’s the morning coffee view from last Saturday.

I think you need to host the Cobalt Chat meet up next year. Just gorgeous!

SLUMBER PARTY AT BUMS HOUSE!!
I'll bring the Cheetos!
Let us know how that conversation goes with your wife.

"Honey, I'm having about 15 or 20 friends over this weekend to spend the night"

"Really? Who?"

"Oh, nobody you would know"

"Hmm.. Well we've been married 30 years and I can't imagine 15 or 20 people coming over that I wouldn't know?"

"No, I met them on the interweb."

Silence...

"No really, I think it'll be fine.

I like the direction this has taken. I have 7 houses at LOTO lined up to look at this weekend... I got an itchy trigger finger too...

Doooooo IT! Seriously you will not regret it. It makes the work week soooo much easier knowing you have your lake oasis waiting for you. Tonight the wife and I were already planning all our extended trips for next summer.

Your right Tusc! I enjoy our place in the fall and winter almost as much. Especially when the canopy falls and we have a clear view of the lake, just sitting by the fire sipping coffee in the mornings or a toddy in the evening. Absolute and completely unwind, refresh and regenerate!
