Ytmsn wrote: Thu Jun 14, 2018 6:59 am I'm curious. Why would you spend over a grand to replace props to gain just a few mph? Especially since it's not a race boat and your never on top for more that 30 seconds or so? I can see gaining a hole shot and mid range for water sports, but otherwise? Ah nevermind. Just thinking...
Your right pal.. Like the automotive industry the Boat MFG spend big money testing and optimizing designs and powertrains that give all around performance.

Like the aftermarket software programs for trucks that magically give you 30 hp and improve fuel mileage.

People buy into perceiving these companies can improve on what billion dollar Auto companies with high level engineering came up with. It makes me smile and it makes me money. Lol

In short it's normal to want more speed or better cruise speed etc. But there is always a sacrifice on one end of the spectrum to have that.

Reggie Fountain would supply test data in every performance boat he built. But he also tested with no passengers and 1/4 tank of fuel which he did document on the test sheet.

Load up 3 people.. fill the tank and some coolers.add gear and anchors.

800 lbs later your 90 mph 35 fountain is going 85.

Do I want to run 70 instead of 68mph? You betcha but I'll only touch it as you said for a brief moment and return to what the people at Cobalt Figured out was the best package for all around performance and long component life.

Is it too early for a lemonade?? Ok off to work😂

This wasn't about speed or gaining mph. Which I would like to do but anyway.. Just wanted to have a spare on hand in case I dent this one up. Don't want a holiday to come up and me get in a bind and not have a boat to go out on. One of the lakes that I boat on is known for floating wood and a lot of people get their props beat up pretty good. I have done well for a newbe and really really watch for it and my prop is currently like new. I know a guy that has had a boat out once this year and already had to replace his and he replaced three last year. Just thought it might be nice to have a spare on hand... just not sure it is 1200 to 1500 nice.

I'll watch ebay and yes.. I am going to continue working on the tach thing.

Seems crazy when you think of that way right? That's exactly what you are doing by buying a "backup" prop set. Your money your call, but you are literally placing $1500 on the shelf and watching it collect dust on the off chance you might need it.

Damn, you made me sound like Dave Ramsey, I hate that guy.

Well.. close and I see your point. The difference being that when I have a failure, I can walk in to my garage and pickup the part and be running again in an hour VS ordering and waiting a week or more.
