Re: Need help diagnosing a high idle

I will take a look at the tach and may even grab one at the part store just to hook up and see what it says. I made another video yesterday after doing the work I did, this is after cleaning and with the throttle cable disconnected.

https://photos.app.goo.gl/2Gy1zgRGo1KY53k43

I do have the throttle cable still removed, and I can push it back any further to adjust the RPM any, it is hitting the screw. It is interesting that you mentioned the RPM when dying Tahoe, maybe it is the tach. It may not be at 1500 but it does seem high to me, either way. You have to be very careful going into reverse, it goes from nothing to throwing you out of the boat in short order, which I assumed was due to RPM being high.

I also have a vacuum gauge, can I not hook it up and see what the idle vacuum is and compare that to what its supposed to be? Assuming I could find that info somewhere.

I am going to revisit it again around lunchtime and report back what I do and find out.

Oh and some of you wanted to see my "new" ride. Here she is. 1995 220 with dual props, 5.8 FSI Volvo.

Overall nice shape, some cracks in the sunpad and bench seat, nowhere else. the guy had it vinyl wrapped, which will eventually come off. The COBALT decals were not put back on after he had it wrapped, so I just bought some new ones and literally put them on last night! I have since installed LED SS cupholders and new Kenwood marine speakers. Got a new Clarion M303 head unit to put in when time allows. The engine is a Jasper engine and was replace in 2011. I called Jasper and confirmed that with them since it had their stamp and serial number on it.

I think I made out pretty good for $7500

It looks very nice. Not sure I want tosee over the wrap. It could be hiding something.

Well boys and girls, I went home at lunch and checked under the dash and the tach did have options for 4, 6, and 8 cyl. It was set on 8 already. I did push the button and turn in and then put back on 8. I couldn't find tach laying around at home (have several from hotrod project) decided to get the ol benzomatic propane torch out and rigged up a hose to it so I could go vacuum hunting just to see. Fired the engine up and what the #&$%$&, she started idling right on 700 where it should be! Dilly Dilly! Thanks for the suggestions, I am headed to the lake for my first family trip with her and now I will feel more cozy knowing its not high.

Great to hear it’s working as advertised. As I mentioned above, eventually the ecu can reset itself. She should shift better now too.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend boating!

Ok yall....argghhh I got another problem I just realized. It was low on PS fluid so I topped it off yesterday. I just noticed on the ground the water is pinkish. Yep, checked ps fluid just now, almost gone. It appears to be running through the engine and spitting out on the ground. What would be causing this?

Thanks. Where would I look for this, on the engine, or remote? No idea if I can get one of these local, or how hard to replace, if not, whats the prognosis for using this weekend without it being swapped out?
