2dual purpose is they I went. Since my boat came with an Optima I just add another one. I don’t think brand really matters. It is the specs that are important. I just like things to match. It is my OCD. 😝

Do any of you think brand matters? I’m thinking optima
Meh, I run Walmart Everstart batteries. Made by Exide. As BB said, I think there are only a handful of battery manufacturers around, probably most of the big name brands you see everyone compare against each other are made by Exide, Johnson Controls, or East Penn/Deka. Always makes me laugh when people are yelling about Interstate vs Die Hard vs Duralast vs whatever, when they are most likely just re-labels all made in the same plant. I'm sure there are some others but those are the big ones.
Protip wrote: Mon Apr 30, 2018 9:49 pm Is it recommended to charge after each trip? I have never done this in any of my boats. I just run two identical batteries on a perco switch setup. I alternate which battery I use each trip out and turn them to off when we leave the boat. Trickle charge over the winter.
I never have before this boat, always did what you said and just turned them off after each use. Probably put them on a charger twice a year for a full top off. I have power in my storage facility now so might as well keep them on a tender all the time. The alternator should keep them topped off with frequent use.

I've been using the Duracell 27M in my last boat and in our 282.

My favorite part , is I get no seapage from
seams. ( sealed type)

Most of the batteries I've used seem to weep wet spots and it kills me to see that. Sure boats get some jostling but I can't stand seeing it. There made by East penn whom have their Deka brand.

I'm a believer and in 4 years of using them.. no leaks no failures.

I run two group 27 starting batteries. I switch them each year so one doesn't get all the work. May not be ideal, but they worked well for 6 years last time.

I prefer Deka brand which can be had under their label or under the Duracell label at batteries plus.

These are what I went with.. but i'll be surprised if they do not weep. I don't think they are maintenance free.
