Cobalt Plaque

Post by kbertsch »

New to the forum. I have a 1975 Cobalt. Hopefully everyone can see the pictures. My dad bought it new in 1975 when I was 13. I have had it ever since. I concluded a long time ago that since I probably will never be able to touch a new Cobalt I better take care of the one I have. Everything is original except for the carpet and top and it runs just like it did in 75. I am trying to replace the two plaque's on each side of the boat that are right behind the Cobalt name in the back. As you can see in the picture they are really faded. I called Cobalt thinking that they might have some old stock laying around but I can't get that lucky. My only other option is to find someone that is parting one out. I have found old Cobalt's for sale but I really don't want to buy a whole boat just for the emblems. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I wish I could help but I have no clue. Could cobalt tell you where they were made? Or did cobalt Make them. Can you get a close up picture of them for us.

Cobalt wasn't much help. They told me they contracted all that out and my best hope would be to have someone make them for me which I guess makes sense. Not to get down on the people at Cobalt but just to get that information took 5 phone calls, a couple of emails and a letter sent via the Post Office. My hope is to find someone that has a boat that is basically scrapped or parted out that has decent ones on it. There is also one on the engine cover that I will take a picture of. It hasn't faded like the ones on the outside.

I wonder if you just get one made from someone that has a cnc machine then have someone that did pinstripe paint it?

I thought of that. I think i can have someone duplicate the frame but i am afraid that duplicating the emblem itself would look worse than i already have. I have concluded they used a foil backed sticker on it. I attached a better picture. this is the one on the engine cover inside the boat. it has started to peel off but has not faded as much as the other two.

I honestly don't know what it is. It's a real thin metal. A guy at work said it is a foil sticker. I've never heard of it but it feels like that. I'm certainly not looking for the same. Something like a vinyl decal would work for me as long as it looks the same. I don't know how you would do it but if you think you can or know of someone who can I'd be all over it. The frames don't look the greatest but I would be willing to leave them on and try to make them look better and just replace the decal inside them. I'll get measurements this weekend.

You could buff and polish the edges. I am sure I could get the decal made. Even if you wanted to ship the plaque to me I could get them to get the bottom to match up. Or you could depending how good of a designer they have at a sign shop. I use fastsigns here. I grew up with the owner and the designer does a bunch for myself and our company.

I never thought they could do something like that. I'll check out our local fastsigns and see what they say. Thanks

Wanted to let you guys know I had the decals made from an online site called Vinyl Approach. He does a fantastic job at a reasonable price. Haven't put them on yet but when I do I'll take pics.

Did you find someone to make your plaque? I'm looking for a couple of them also. Let me know.

Sorry I didn't see all the posts that you had found someone to make them.

Yours are in better shape than Mine, and still love your boat. Its almost as old as mine. This one in the pic was starting to peel of and had to re-glue them.
Did you ever find a solution?
