Opinions on Seadek vs dogs on the swim platform

Post by sailor55330 »

Hi all-

So as a total noob, here's my second post. My R3 did not come with the Seadeck-type pad on the swim platform. I spoke to my dealer about it and he said they could install, but honestly didn't recommend it as they have had horrible luck with the pad lifting from the swim deck, even from the factory after about 1.5 years. He didn't say they wouldn't do it, but it was interesting to hear a dealer actually advise against a sale.

So my question is this--I have 2 large dogs that love to swim. The current swim platform without the pad is a little slick for them and I want to see what others are saying about this. My concern is that as my Lab & Wiemeraner launch and climb on board that dog nails will shred the pad.

Any thoughts?
Thanks!

My guess would be yes they prob will. But I think that is a better option then not having anything on the platform. You could buy cheaper sheets of it and put it down and replace it as needed. It will still look and function great.

We have an 80lbs dog and the seadek on the swim platform. We took him out twice last year and his nails did scratch the pad. Its not a huge scratch but it can and did happen to us. He also scratched the hell out of our chillraft (its like a lillypad). The problem we found on the swimpad was getting him back out of the water. Thats when he scratched the seadek. He was a real spaz on the boat both times last year so we quit taking him.

My guy wears booties to protect the upholstery. They will definitely tear up the sea dek.

No longer have a dog. But if I did, booties would be a must. Added bonus is watching the first time they have them on.

Ditto. Our 90lb+ Bouvier wears booties. I refer to them as her Sperry Dogsiders.
