Cobalt 343?

Post by jhnmdahl »

I was looking at old models in some of the Cobalt brochures and stumbled across the 343. I’m thinking if we do have a meetup, Bigblock could pick up a used one cheap and keep the rest of us entertained. Owners say they were good for about 80mph, but Cobalt quality and very stable.

It pinned you to the back of the seat at WOT and would turn on a dime like it was a malibu ripping thru a ski course. Unreal. Of course it was named Big Red! Found a picture of the actual boat...

Love those and we pondered one.

The cockpit seating does allow for some hang out area (facing). It's very cockpit big.. small cabin.

Low swim platforms and a sort of walk through center make it easy to board.

But it's heavy heavy.( did I mention heavy?)and a bit wide at 9.6 beam . Even stepped she needs 525 power to go in the mid 70 mph.

Sexy boat with tops in rigging and Cobalt quality...just never caught on due to its limitations.

Heavy? Come on its only 11,750 dry. And that INCLUDES the Twin Big Blocks. Totally towable, just be sure to add the 1,400lb of fuel once you are in the water.

Matt you will enjoy this.

I have a buddy in OKC that owns a 343 with twin 502's. One engine has an issue he's trying to sort out and then it goes up for sale. It's red just like the one Nautie posted. An amazing boat..

But same guy also owns an Eleminator, but just sold a Dicks Custom Boat with blown twin 6 somthings that would hit 130 on the water. Scared the crap outta me, and apparently my buddy too, because he sold it to buy the Eleminator he has now, and it will do over 100.

This spring I'll get some onboard video of it while we're doing a pass. It's pretty exhilarating!

Ahh yes it will always be in my Blood..

Looking forward to seeing the Video.. Plus make sure you take a video of you anchored off and lounging in your 262.. With all your Offshore buddies tied off to you ..... they will be jealous of the comfort!!

The nice thing is you can get the Speed fix out of your system with out the limited use of owning one.
