My presentation

Post by ShaneK »

Hi everyone, Shane here from Dublin, Ireland. I've been a Cobalt owner for about 6 years now started with a 2012 Cobalt 200 that I kept on the Solent near Portsmouth, and upgraded to a 2018 220S when we moved to Dublin two years ago. The 220S is a trailer boat so I tow it with my Touareg gives me the flexibility to explore different lakes and coastal spots around Ireland, which has been brilliant. Its beam is right around the threshold where wide-load rules can kick in here, so worth checking your local requirements before you assume it's a straightforward tow. Moving the boat over from the UK wasn't entirely hassle-free either, to be fair with Brexit there's a VAT angle to sort out depending on when and how the boat's status was established, so don't assume that side is automatically simple. But it was registering the tow vehicle in Ireland that was the real headache. VRT, NOx levy, OMSP valuations... the whole import process is a maze if you've never done it before. I ended up using one of the VRT calculators available online, which saved me a lot of guesswork and helped me budget properly before committing. I've been lurking on the forum for a while and finally decided to join properly there's a wealth of knowledge here and it's been great reading through the threads. Looking forward to contributing, especially from the perspective of a Cobalt owner on this side of the Atlantic!
