2nd sub install position on R7 surf
Hello. I searched, but couldn’t find. Has anyone installed a 2nd JL 10” sub on a ‘21 R7 surf? Currently have Premium sound, with JL M 600/1 monoblock and the JL 10” sub behind the drivers seat. If so, can you provide pic of the 2nd location, and any info on how you routed wiring? Thanks. David

Re: 2nd sub install position on R7 surf
We added a second 10 in to our 2017 R5 last year - I believe the port seats are roughly the same size so I believe this placement would work for you also. A couple thoughts:
Adding a second sub in parallel on the M600/1 is a perfect setup. It puts a 2ohm load on the amp and sends about 300w to each Sub.
The second sub is the single best upgrade I have done to the boat, it makes a huge difference.
To take full advantage of the 300w you will want to go /w the M6 series JL's. The Sub behind the Captain's seat in ours was a MX Series which is roughly equivalent to the current JL M3 Line. It doesnt have the power handling to deal /w 300w.
To make it all work we went ahead and replaced the OEM JL 10 in behind the captain's seat /w an M6. If you wire the subs off a single M600/1 they are both going to get the same amount of power. If you keep the OEM MX sub you are going to be limited on what you can push to the new sub you install. It works best if you bite the bullet and replace the OEM /w an M6 then install a second M6 in the new location. This lets you send the full 300w to each sub.
I didnt do the install myself, I was too much of a wuss to cut the hole. I can tell you the M6 10 is a deep sub and it fits in that location perfectly /w no spacer. Almost as if it was built to be there. As a secondary bonus there is nothing under the seat there so you dont lose any storage.
Hope this helps let me know if you have more questions.
