19 R7 Platinum Sound Issues

Post by Bradydonohue »

I have a 2019 Cobalt R7 with the Platinum Sound system. I recently took it to the dealer because two of the cabin speakers weren’t working.

When I got the boat back, all four main cabin speakers were working—but now the bow speakers and the rear-facing speakers don’t work, even though they were working before I brought it in.

The dealer is saying there’s a bad channel on one of the amps, but I’m confused because I dropped it off with 6 out of 8 speakers working and got it back with only 4 out of 8 working.

From what I understand, this system uses two Roswell amps. Does anyone have experience troubleshooting these? I’d really like to avoid replacing one or both amps if possible given the cost.

For what it’s worth, this Platinum Sound system has been problematic since day one—it’s needed work multiple times a year since I bought the boat in 2019.

Any insight would be appreciated.

I had issues with my brothers '20 R5 where a channel that went out on the AMP as well, though he didn't have the Platinum Sound, one step down I believe?
I just put two sets of speakers going to the same channel. Not Ideal but cheaper than replacing the Amp.
Do you know where the AMP is? He had speakers not working so I played trial and error taking them off the amp until I found which set the wires were. Then I connected different wires to the bad channel to confirm the issue was the AMP channel, then I simply screwed two sets of wires into the same AMP channel.

Make sure the radio's zone volumes are up. I've stumbled over that a few times.
