Cobalt Boat hairline cracks

Post by cald2223 »

Man I hate to POST this but my 2020 Cobalt CS232 (purchased NEW at the Atlanta Boat Show) has been in the Fiberglass shop more than on the Lake- and I've had it!!

I always wanted a Cobalt so when the time came in 2020, I purchased a new CS232- and we loved it!! However, after about the first year I noticed little fractures in the gel coat on both sides at the base of the ski tower AND most concerning a hairline fracture at the base of the privacy or wind partition. I called my local dealer Singleton Marina at Lake Oconee and after the season they repaired it. No harm No foul- right? Wrong!! After a few visits to the Lake and while washing the boat out, I noticed the same cracks were back again!!

Today- while cleaning out the boat much to my disappointment there it was...hairline cracks at the base of the privacy partition (AGAIN!!!!)

Now I'm thinking this is a structural issue and not a quality control issue with the fiberglass. My next step is to get in touch with the dealership but this time I am reaching out to Cobalt corporate.

My question is....Has anyone else had any fiberglass or structural issues??? Please kindly make a comment.

Thank you!
Jeff

mod edit - title changed to reflect actual issue rather than inapplicable car laws

We had some cracks by the ski tower that were fixed in 22 when we initially bought our boat new. They have not re appeared. I'm a little nervous that they will. I have owned a three other cobalts all bought new, 2011, 2016, 2020 and the 2022, the 2022 is the only one that I have any issue with on the gel coat. Hoping those areas stay fixed. It's been three years and so far so good knock on wood.
