GatorStep for a 2019 220S

Post by BillTompkins »

Hey folks, hope the New Year was great for all of you..

I have a 2019 220S and was looking to put Gatorstep flooring or some other flooring on the transom, swim deck and walkthrough. The only issue I have is that they only have a template for the 2016 Cobalt 220S. My question is this: How different, if at all, are the 2019 vs the 2016 transom, walkthrough and swim deck? Also, has anyone else here used GatorStep and if you have, how do you like it and how has it held up for you?

Thanks for your help.

RWM, your flooring (and the whole boat) looks great. I saw your post when searching about GatorStep earlier. This info is great, as the flooring is not something I want to do every two or so years. Also, what 'carpet' was on the main floor of your boat when you opted to do the main floor. I currently have Sea Grass flooring that is in perfect condition so I will probably only do the transom, swim deck and walk through right now. I have also seen SafeFloor and while it looks great and gets great reviews, I don't know as I want to do something as 'permanent' as an epoxy based floor on the boat.

Thanks for your comment.

The area you are planning to put it should be 100% the same.

My floor still had the original factory flooring. It's still in good shape other than the backing. We placed the GatorStep on our swim platform first to see if we liked it and see how it held up. We were very pleased with how it has held up and decided to finish the rest of the boat. I like the looks of the seagrass and understand why you would want to keep it. The GatorStep can get warm in the direct sunlight.
I don't have any experience with SafeFloor, and didn't know it was an option until your last post. I can't blame you for not wanting to put a permanent epoxy on your floor. Send before and after pics. We all enjoy seeing completed projects. We just like seeing pics of everyone's boats too. Good luck, Bill. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out. It doesn't matter the topic, there's lots of great help on this chat line.

Bill, new to the group here but 18 yr cobalt owner. Do still have the seagrass flooring in your boat? if so, could you post a picture of the cockpit area? The reason I'm asking is I put seagrass in this past year using the original snap locations from the factory carpet. Problem is, when your cruising on the water at 40mph, the air gets up under it and looks like a parachute. I'm curious as to whether or not you needed to add more snaps. If you post a picture I'll be able to see your snap locations. Thanks

You probably didn't stretch the sea grass tight enough. There shouldn't be any slack.

Beuler, sorry for the delay in responding, I didn't get any notifications. The Sea Grass in the cockpit is great, at speed, it doesn't parachute at all. Let me see if I can get you pictures of the snap-in areas. We only did the GatorStep on the swim platform and extended swim platform as it gets a little slick at times and if you've got kids or any folks a little older, losing footing can happen fast and end up badly.
