Made a rookie mistake on the 2007 200

Post by Amhochb »

Boat has a 5.0gxi with SX-A drive Finished installing new rotor, cap, plugs, and impeller. Hooked the hose up to the motor to run on land. Completely forgot to lower the out drive. Thing was banging and clanking while it ran for maybe 5 seconds. I shut it off and checked what all I had just worked on. Started it back up and it was running fine, no noise. After a minute or so (I know I should’ve done it sooner) I went to the back to make sure water was coming out the exhaust and that’s when I realized the drive was up. I then lowered it down and let the motor reach operating temp. Engaged forward and reverse, no abnormal noise but man I felt like an idiot. Think any damages could’ve been caused?

As long as you didn't run it at more than idle speed, you are likely ok.

Should be fine at idle speed. I see people crank their boat and forget the drive is tilted all the time (ask me how I know). With no bad effects.
