Problems Loading on Trailer

Just purchased my 2015 R5 VP 430. The previous owner had a 242 trailer that he used for the R5 because it was always kept on a lift. The dealer I spoke with says the R5 fits perfectly on the 242 trailer. However, the last 3 times I have loaded it, the bow just doesn’t like to stay up on the roller. There is always a 2-4” gap that appears after pulling it out of the water which allows the boat to rock a bit. Do I need to get a different trailer, or am I not loading it correctly? i already broke the strap trying to pull the boat up on the roller. Does anyone know if I should be looking for an actual R5 trailer?

I personally would. I'm a huge fan of EzLoader trailer. Loadmaster a close 2nd. But I guess without seeing your trailer it's hard to say how is sitting on it. How does it fit Between the chines?

Stbeaty- I had this same issue for a bit. Would have the boat against the bump stop and after pulling the boat out would look again and would be 2-4 inches off the stop. Would recommend trying to load your boat with the trailer about a foot farther out of the water than you currently are. Note when I put the boat in the water I am always deeper than when retrieving. Think that is stating the obvious but figured to mention it. I use the rear tire to know where to stop on both operations. For example when I am putting in, I am about 4 inches deep on my rear tire and boat is mostly floating. Retrieving I am about a foot from the water. If needed suggest backing deep enough to wet all your bunks then come out to the right distance that you have predetermined and load the boat. Also very important is to have the trailer level. Most people I see are not level towing. Mostly see boats and trailers at an incline. IF that is you then suggest getting your trailer level with a drop hitch. Makes a difference loading and also when towing. Id try that before getting a new trailer.

I had the same issues with my old EZLoader trailer and my R5. I this my trailer was also built for a 242 and they gave it to me with the sale of my R5. My boat would also pull away from the bow stop no matter how I loaded it, I broke a couple straps too. I upgraded to a 3200lb winch with a 10,000lb strap. That kinda solved the problem of the bow pulling away from the bow stop. I would load the boat, winch it forward until it hit the stop then get a couple extra turns on the crank to put extra tension on the bow eye not allowing it to settle back while pulling the trailer out of the water. I made the trailer work for a few more years then I finally had enough of the crappy EZLoader trailer (sorry BB) and ordered a Loadmaster trailer. All of my problems were solved with that, well at least my problems with my trailer… good luck!

I also had trouble loading my R5. My trouble was the anchor hanging up on the bow stop. Soaked the bunks with Liquid Rollers solved the problem.
