Fuel still at 100% - Calibration?
Re: Fuel still at 100% - Calibration?
Thank you everybody. I spoke to the dealer today and they said “it should be calibrated“ they want me to run the boat a few more hours to see if there’s any movement on the gauge and if not to let them know.

WIll add my .02 here. New 22 R8S and same thing on the fuel guage after 4 tanks. The first tank went from 100%, to 60% to 30% and then almost instantly went to 0% fuel level. Says it's an 80 gallon tank but I put in 79.45 gallons without squeezing any extra in. Gonna have to keep an eye on it this summer and have it looked at when I take it back to the dealer.

Re: Fuel still at 100% - Calibration?
I try to fill ours up when it below a half tank.
It keeps gas fresher, and a $100 tank a week seems to hurt less than a $200 tank every two weeks.
+1 on getting a needless post to raise my rating, but there is a slight amount of humor, no?

Mine is a 2022 R6 OB Mercury. As a newbie does anyone know if it has an evc? I know that is the volvo nomenclature so looking for equivalent. The user manual is useless in my opinion.stifflkd wrote: Fri May 20, 2022 11:38 amOnce at Settings hit OK. Use the right arrow until you come to Fuel Cal. There are three methods; Multi, Full & Empty I just selected Full. At that point with tank full and boat level (i.e at the fuel dock) hit OK. Should be good to go.BRDad wrote: Fri May 20, 2022 10:43 amThanks for the info. When you calibrated...do you remember what the procedure was through the EVC? If it was a few years ago it is probably not relevant. Sounds like it may be specific to the new R's. For what its worth I have a 2021 R5. I calibrated the gauge directly through the VP EVC and it appears to be accurate at all tank levels. Maybe calibrating from the Garmin is not the right way? The sender is connected to the VP network and then that info is just relayed to the Garmin.![]()
Re: Fuel still at 100% - Calibration?
Good point. What I mentioned above is done at the small VP EVC screen. It transfers that info to the Garmin since both the gauge on the EVC and the one on the Garmin follow one another. I think the fuel sending unit is read from the engine and not directly from the Garmin. I got to think the same is done on your outboard but don't hold me to it. Is there a separate Mercury interface on the boat. I would think there must be since not every boat offers a glass cockpitForeverCobalt wrote: Thu Aug 04, 2022 1:02 pmMine is a 2022 R6 OB Mercury. Why is that I feel fiberglass itch from crawling in the boat is in my future?

Re: Fuel still at 100% - Calibration?
Noticed this weekend when having the boat out that the fuel gauge actually started changing! This in my 4th tank since taking delivery of the boat. First time the gauge has read anything other than 100%. Much to my surprise, it moved from 94% to 88% during the day. So it's actually moving. However, I question the accuracy of the 88% value. I have about 5 hours of run time since my last fill up. So that should be approximately 25 gallons, based on what I've been tracking between fill ups. So that should put me at 35 gallons remaining, or 58% full.

Re: Fuel still at 100% - Calibration?
I am having the same experience! I do have two garmin displays and went into the settings and changed it from auto detect on the number of tanks to just setting it to 1 tank. Not sure if that made a difference or not. Its frustrating though because i dont trust it which means we are not venturing that far away till I get more trust into the gauge
Re: Fuel still at 100% - Calibration?
Just looked in my R4 the data plate on the tank actual says 59 gals so makes sense it would take more than listed to fill. Garmin system is probably calibrated for a 50 gal tank like the specs.

Interesting. I think my R3 is either 48 or 49 gallons.mike6681 wrote: Thu May 25, 2023 6:16 pm Just looked in my R4 the data plate on the tank actual says 59 gals so makes sense it would take more than listed to fill. Garmin system is probably calibrated for a 50 gal tank like the specs.
