R8 vs R6 surf

I’m considering purchasing a demo 2022 R8 surf but wanted to get thoughts on how easy it is to maneuver? I’m coming out of a Malibu and don’t surf that much as kids are getting older but want the ability to do so occasionally. I find the R6 to be a little tighter quarters than the bu and the R8 feels AWESOME but haven’t driven that size of a boat with someone surfing behind it. Would love thoughts?? Thank you.

Hey crod. So glad you found us my friend.

There are quite a few threads on this subject but others will chime in shortly. The R8 won’t maneuver like an inboard but I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
Where do you boat? One thing to consider is the trim moment arm. When you trim up it actually drives the forward facing props down. This can be an issue in shallower bodies of water.

We took delivery of our 2022 R8S in march and we are loving it. As was stated I don't think your going to have any trouble maneuvering it, in fact coming from an inboard I think you will find it much much easier to maneuver around the dock etc. We also went back and forth between the R6 and the R8, the extra two feet really makes a difference as far as interior feel but there is essentially no difference in handling between the 8 and the 6. Overall I highly recommend the R8 Surf.

The ONLY difference is the sheer size of boat. For our lake, the R6 Surf is about as big as we could have gone. The lake size is fine but the docks at the marinas mostly do not support a boat larger than ours. Basically, make sure it'll fit when you need to make a pit stop.

We took delivery of our '22 R8 Surf in April and have had no issue with handling - it is amazing to surf behind and the extra space is welcome when just enjoying the lake and your guests. Loaded with ballast, it throws a great wave and is easy to manage picking up surfers when they fall.
