New to us A28

Post by Cobalt272! »

Hey All,

Been on the forum for a few years with a ’05 272, thanks for all the insight! Boat has been fantastic, but we’ve always had our eye on A28s and when one popped up locally with the options we wanted, had to make the move. We expect to close on (sell) the 272 this weekend.

Build summary:
2016 A28
VP430 (63hrs)
White w/ black boot strip
Hardtop
Premium stereo
Hydraulic swim platform
Windlass
GPS

First impressions from sea trail:
6.0L VVT direct injection is more refined, no lope from the cam in the BB (might miss that)
Smooth over chop (hull design vs displacement?)
Optimal use of space for seating
Like the dark interior, but big change from white and bright

Projects & Questions:
Replace 75ft anchor chain with 150ft (PNW lakes are deep)
Full detail later in Spring
Toilet set up is different than what's in manual (never replaced by previous owner). Does anyone know if the VacuFlush toilets use raw water to flush? I could not figure out how to add water to the toilet (no foot pump). When I followed the water line from the seacock, it appeared to go direct to toilet. Water pump was on, both faucets pumped water.

That's it for now.... Now on to learning about the A28 and VP.

Congrats! Beautiful boat.....IMO the sexiest looking sub 30' boat out there. Looks to be in great shape too. so you had plenty of room for the added anchor chain? Our lake is deep too so was curious. I dont have a winch but was curious how much chain you could fit on them.

Great pics! Love the A28 lines. Great to hear you're enjoying the 430 VP small block. Keep us posted on that as you run her. Looking forward to your Captain's report as well!

Nice looking boat, I was wondering about the anchor chain as well, can you not add 75' of rope to the 75' of chain? I have a 100' chain and it's almost never enough where I boat.

Have not installed the new chain yet, but based on looking at the compartment, I figured I could double the length. Will let you know if I need to cut any off.

Nice looking boa! The vacuflush head in my R5 uses raw water to flush. Look for a seacock through hull fitting with a ball valve in the engine compartment and follow the hose to a sea strainer. That is what supplies the water to our head. On my R5 the ball valve is just on front of the engine.

Agreed. Absolutely my favorite looking Cobalt Wish they had kept the exact same lines for the A29 and offered it with twins. That would be my dream boat right there.

Congrats Cobalt 272. Are you going to have to change your forum handle?

Thank you for confirming, that's what I saw too (while on trailer).

Good point on the forum handle, apparently I didn't have enough foresight when I joined :D

Nice, one of the best looking hulls they made, if I were ever to win the lotto, a A25 would be purchased without permission from my Admiral...

We had an A25 and absolutely loved it! If not for teenagers begging to surf would have kept that boat forever!

All 150ft of the new 1/4" chain fit in the compartment, though I needed to shove it down a few times. Both chains are technically 1/4", but the new one I bought is a bit larger in all measurements.

Thanks for the info. If we can fit that much chain up there a windlass will be on my list of needs next boat. You got a great boat there. Quite the Unicorn with the hardtop. Enjoy!
