Re: Back With Another Possible Cobalt Purchase

I thought I would post an update in case anyone is interested in this boat. It has served my family very well for the past 2-3 years and we have received a lot of enjoyment from owning this boat. I have been given quite a few compliments on it and a few people have been very curious about it.

But ...

Re: Back With Another Possible Cobalt Purchase

Good idea on using the square tube to raise the trailer. The raised trailer height still wasn’t enough to get into the garage?

You will have to put the trailer 2” deeper into the water when you launch?

Yes I will have to pull it 2” deeper but that shouldn’t be a problem. And yes I needed the ...

Re: Back With Another Possible Cobalt Purchase

Nice job! Thanks for the update.

I’m not sure what you mean when you said “raised the trailer 2” with some square tubing and new U Bolts”? Any pics?

Think of it just like when people lift pickup trucks by putting a block between the leaf spring and the axle. I realize I could’ve gotten new ...

Re: Back With Another Possible Cobalt Purchase

Figured I would update this thread again just for the sake of it, and in case it helps anyone else out down the road.

We had a nice summer with the boat, took a couple different groups of friends out with it, it ran well, no trouble at all and we had a great time.

I did have a custom cover and a ...

Re: Back With Another Possible Cobalt Purchase

I figured I would update this thread since you all were so helpful to me in the purchasing process.

Things have gone not as well as I had hoped but just about as I expected honestly. Purchasing a 26 year boat in the noche of winter during a snow storm with no sea trial I expected some problems ...

That link does not work on my phone but I’ve had oil tested before. That’s a good idea. Thank you.

Re: Back With Another Possible Cobalt Purchase

Well I took a risk on this boat and come spring I’ll let you guys and gals know how it turns out. I went and looked at the boat, overall the exterior was in as expected condition, for a 25 year old boat I will call it good. I think with a little elbow grease I’m certain it can really shine.

The ...

So long as it checks out seems like a good deal I believe.

Re: Back With Another Possible Cobalt Purchase

Can't recall your intended use. Keep in mind that the CS is primarily a ski boat. Can't trim it. Tricky to back up. Not as good in choppy waters. Compared to other Cobalts, she is not a cruise boat.

"is currently winterized"

She'll need to be summerized so you can take her on a sea trail ...

Back With Another Possible Cobalt Purchase

Hello Again,

You folks lined me out a couple months ago on a vintage Cobalt boat with an OMC outboard and told me to RUN! which I did. My quest has continued, I"m taking my time to find the right boat. Again I feel like I may have come across another good deal but I don't dare even go without ...

Re: 1974 18' Cobalt Trihull

As for fuel tanks the motor etc. I would be fine refurbishing those.
The problem with fuel tanks, depending on the boat, you practically have to rip the floor apart to replace the tanks. The tanks are placed between the stringers before the floor and the cap are put on during manufacturing ...

Re: 1974 18' Cobalt Trihull

That's why when you're looking to by something you know nothing about, especially a 50 year old boat you do some research! Too bad it's not a mercruiser because I really liked that boat especially in that condition at that price. I suppose with a mercruiser he might would've asked more.
With a ...

Re: 1974 18' Cobalt Trihull

Well this is kind of a bummer.... That sure is a nice boat but I want something I can have fun with. I don't mind working on something if it needs repairs but a lack of parts availability means repairing the OMC drive when it needs it may not be an option. And I'm not interested in doing the work a ...
