Re: Fuel smell only when tank is full
Recently purchased a ‘17 R5 and love it.
When I fill the gas tank up full, there is a very strong gas odor. Doesn’t seem to be in the engine compartment but is really strong around the fuel tank. I’ve tightened all the hose clamps, sending unit and fuel pick ups but still have the gas odor.
It ...

Re: Gelcoat match
I was able to order the exact gel coat from my dealer, but I assume it's going to be very thin like paint.
So I'm planning on using some cabosil silica filler to thicken it up.
My concern is how much the thickener may alter the color. Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Gelcoat match
Cost - and this is DIY remember! - Between the Ceramic, Cutting Compounds/Polishes, buffing Pads and Towels, I'm at about $400 - and that is not including my Rotary Buffer which I bought for this job (I already have a DA Polisher)
I forgot to include the Gel - $150 for the quart of Gel and ...

Re: are battery tenders worth it
Battery maintainers on everything as well. I added the charger/maintainer to my boat when I ordered it, and plug it in after every use, and then pull the batteries and maintain them in winter.
I have a lawn mower battery that is going on close to 10 years because I plug it in after every use as well.

Re: Gas in bilge
I think this is a situation where both people may be right. A leak in a gas tank can be a serious situation, but someone has to fix it, and just hiring someone else to do it does not mean they may not fix it the same exact way you would do it. As Kate pointed out, gas tanks are repaired, rather than ...

Re: R5 inspection
Looks like you already passed on this boat, but couple things to consider.
First, I wouldn't go so far as to say this boat was neglected. Needs a new coat of bottom paint. It looks like the vast majority of boats I see that are kept in the water, and usually at a marina.

Re: R5 inspection
It does look like peeling bottom paint. I boat in the salt free Great Lakes, and MANY MANY boats have bottom paint. Just depends on what kind of boating you do. Keeping it in the water at a marina and bottom paint looks and works best.
That being said, bottom paint does need to be redone ...

Re: Battery Charger Location
I found some pics online in case I forget to get some pics of mine.

The red arrow shows where they mounted mine on the floor of the engine compartment. You can see where this boat has one mounted behind and above the engine. Most pics I've seen that is where it is mounted. I think ...

Re: Brand New R8 - First Winterization
AsLan summed it up well, however, I know I read somewhere on here where someone contacted the manufacturer and they did not recommend running antifreeze through an engine with the EZ drain.
Couple dealers wanted to run antifreeze through it "just to be safe." I'm glad I didn't listen to them and ...
