Re: 2020 R5 Trim

guessing it is a VP drive? That is where I'd start, you can buy the new trim sensor and plug it in and try it before actually installing.

Re: Lake Tahoe Cobalts

I bought a handful of the inflating vests from West Marine. Pricey, but like insurance they are worth it if needed.

Latest tally I heard tonight at TYC was that over 100 boats sunk on Saturday. Most were on buoys. The number shocked me. The annual average in Tahoe is 120.

Wow! I’ve always ...

Re: Lake Tahoe Cobalts

Sounds like a good plan to me. Do you have a VHF radio on your boat? That is another great tool for something like this, CG radioed prior to this storm (not sure how long before), but that could save lives, or avoid a bad day on the lake. I don't always have mine on but I will now. I also have ...

Re: Lake Tahoe Cobalts

I disagree vehemently that you should beach your boat without pointing the boat into the waves at a 20° to 30° angle beforehand away from shore. They would have been fine if they did that and were off shore.

Re: 27' Chris Craft capsizes on Lake Tahoe

Yeah, 6’ wave 6’ apart is a lot different than what you’d see on the ocean or probably Great Lakes where they’re spread out more. Can be unrelenting…I think they say wave patterns can be 10% of what you’d typically see in the ocean, who knows what they saw that day…

Re: 27' Chris Craft capsizes on Lake Tahoe

Some info from local news and a link someone sent me taken from camp Richardson.

"The boat took water on, stalled the engine," said Sam Singer, the family spokesperson. "The water that was being taken on caused the boat to capsize and the occupants were thrown into Lake Tahoe."

Re: 27' Chris Craft capsizes on Lake Tahoe

It's a 27' boat, but not the amount of room you'd typically see in a 27' boat, 10 adults would be packed in, that's probably the max capacity. Also the freeboard is far less than an R series, especially in the back. More of a luxury cruiser.

Re: Lake Tahoe Cobalts

Darn, final toll is 8.

I am using this as a mandate to have excellent life jackets on board...not just the orange Coast Guard mandated vests.

Sad, I just saw they were all older.

Agreed, it's only happened once but when it was sketchy I pulled out a life jacket for everyone and had them hold ...

I'm looking for a R7 Surf trailer but I don't have a R5 trailer....and I'm in Ca. so probably not much help. Love the boat though!

Re: Access to blackwater tank and seacock

Are you trying to switch where the black water goes? That valve is in the ski locker up high on the port side, 3 way valve I believe, on my R7.

Re: Lake Tahoe Cobalts

Anyone on Tahoe have the bottom of the boat cleaned at a marina, and if so, which one? I would like to do this sooner than I pull the boat out for the season (even though its late).

Re: Lake Tahoe Cobalts

Thanks guys. I've had some similar thoughts on gear ratios, but I don't know enough to know if these newer 4-stroke OBs should be set up differently for sea level vs elevation. But the way the motor acts, its like driving a manual transmission car and starting off in 3rd gear every time. You can ...

One other thought, catch the local dealer, west coast boat center on a slower day and ask, they’d know if there’s been problems with that setup there.

Great looking boat! And yes the lake is great, views are always awesome.

Re: Lake Tahoe Cobalts

Hey All. I'm a San Diego boater but just arrived in Tahoe with my 25SC and Yamaha F300 outboard. It's got some altitude sickness at the moment. Can't get it over 3000 RPMs. I've got an 18p prop on it, so I'm sure I need to pitch it down a little, but there seems to be some automatic adjustments it ...
