Looks like more work to do to have a functioning PTA available to my 2020 R-5.
The “return to default” sequence did not seem to return the settings from last year, before the outdrive was removed for maintenance and then reinstalled. And while I have a “functioning” trim switch and apparent ...

Re: Volvo Penta Auto Trim Not functioning (?)
When I returned to the lift, the trim position on the Garmin was zero and the EVC was -5. However, with the boat elevated, it was visibly obvious the outdrive was still “trimmed out” a bit, not tucked in as you would expect in “idle”.
I trimmed manually all the way in and the EVC went to -7. I then ...

Re: Volvo Penta Auto Trim Not functioning (?)
I maybe on to something here:(?)
At least I can tell what the default settings are.
Found in the manual download from the Volvo Penta support website. Must have boats serial number to access.

Re: Volvo Penta Auto Trim Not functioning (?)
Is it possible this is merely a “calibration” issue?
I am not the mechanic but I am sure they removed the outdrive as part of servicing this year.
Does attention have to be paid to “rehanging” the drive and is there a “sensor” that needs to be “zero” or calibrated in some way?
I noticed today that ...

Trim position on Cobalt Glass Cockpit vs. Volvo EVC
I have noticed that the trim position on the Garmin screen reads from 0 (full down) to full up position. Normally, using Auto Trim Assist, that correspond to 0 up to about 19 degrees at full throttle
and planning.
The EVC reads from a negative (-5 approximately) up to a positive 5 or 7 (I don’t ...

Re: Volvo Penta Auto Trim Not functioning (?)
Since this post has had an abundance of views and no reply’s, I am assuming that I may have this all wrong and need to look in another direction for this new (2025) issue of porpoising.
In reviewing all of the reasons why this occurs, I can rule out boat weight distribution (loading) since nothing ...

Volvo Penta Auto Trim Not functioning (?)
Hello:
Just launched the 2020 R-5 this season and noticed the boat "porpoising" quite badly when I get up on plane. I also noticed the boat speed is
down from last year at the corresponding RPM.
Engine is 300 HP Volvo DuoProp.
I have Auto Trim activated and the trim gauge on the screen seems ...

Re: Check engine and audible alarm 300 v8 C-A
Glad the problem was resolved for you.
My issue with the MIL (Multifunction Indicator Lamp) was diagnosed via an engine code and led to replacement of two (2) of the O2 sensors, one each side. It was able to be handled under warranty (so far) and I have not seen any additional faults reported to the ...

Thanks very much for the heads up.
I assume by “settings” you refer to the menu when you touch the gauge for one second or so. Setting the “rated max” for whatever will push the readout into the red whenever the setting is exceeded.
If that is correct, great and thanks.

Red “background” on tachometer display Cobalt Glass Cockpit
Greetings:
Our 2020 R-5 has the Volvo Penta 300 HP DuoProp and the maximum RPM is in the area of 5900.
For the first 2 years (50 hours?) of operations, the background on the tachometer display/gauge would go red when operating at 5000 RPM or above. I notice now with 75 hours in the 3rd year, the ...

Re: Garmin connectivity to engine data
While I wasn’t able to get “hands on” support from my dealer to resolve this connectivity issue, I was able to benefit from information pulled from this group as well as telephone support from Cobalt as well as a “friendly” service department at a major Cobalt dealer here in the East.

Thanks for weighing in on this.
I am not at all sure as to the process
of “re-initializing each gauge” would be.
Could you give a description of how to proceed?
Herb

Re: Garmin connectivity to engine data
I will be spending some time with the Volvo tech later this week as he replaces the “O2 sensors” which showed a fault on the EVC system. We will also look at this issue with regards to no engine data reported to the Cobalt glass cockpit screen. This is very critical as having to refer to the 2.5 ...

Re: Garmin connectivity to engine data
Hello:
I now have this identical issue of the lack of any engine data displayed on the Cobalt glass cockpit, dual GPSMAP 7607’s.
It started with this: We had a fault and engine shutdown on the Volvo EVC with a shift actuator issue. A very good Volvo tech was able to assist us in resolving the shift ...
