Replacing batteries with dual AGM

Spring launch is here and considering replacing my 5 year old batteries. Currently have dual interstate 24M-XHD batteries with the ACR that came standard with my 2015 R5. Thinking of replacing both with new AGM batteries, Interstate 24M-AGM. Are there any concerns with this option? Also does anyone ...

Re: Winter storage and keeping boat on trailer

Thank you all for the advice and recommendations. I just had a new set of good year endurance trailer tires installed on the empty trailer sitting idle in summer storage. These replaced the original set of west lake tires. With the R5 boat weighing approx 5,000 lbs and the boatmate twin axle trailer ...

Winter storage and keeping boat on trailer

I keep my R5 in the water for 5 months during the summer in the northeast and then store it indoors in a non-heated garage on my 2019 boat-mate trailer. When the boat is in the water my trailer sits idle in the garage. My question simply is it ok to store my boat on the trailer this way for the 7 ...

Re: Trailer tires

I too still have the same four tires plus a never used spare that came with my new boatmate trailer back in 2019. They are west lake brand. I have done very little towing. Maybe at most 100 miles a season. So my tires have at most 700 miles on them. And my trailer is stored in-doors all year long ...

Re: R5 swim platform repair

I used Marine-Tex and it worked perfectly. Since it was an overhead hole, I let it set up for a few minutes to stiffen up and then used a syringe and putty nice to apply. Covered with clear packing tape. After it cured removed the tape and drilled new hole. All good now. Thank you all for your ...

Re: R5 swim platform repair

Makes sense, so you’ve used something like loctite marine epoxy? I’ll check this out and compare to Marine-Tex and see which might work in this situation considering I have to apply it upside down underneath the swim platform where the stainless bumper mounts.

Re: R5 swim platform repair

Thanks for the suggestions on the epoxy’s. The two lag screws go directly into the underside of the swim platform, there are no inserts. I was also considering using Sikaflex 292i or 3M5200. Any thoughts on this? And after applying either of these or an epoxy should I then finish off with a gel coat ...

R5 swim platform repair

Hello, looking for advice on a repair I’m looking to make. On my R5 swim platform, one of the lag screws holding the port side stainless steel bumper surround to the fiberglass swim platform pulled out. Looks like when this happened it created a bit of a gap between the mounting plate attached to ...

Re: Sealant recommendation for removing deck carpet snap screws

I did go with the UltraDeck and sealed my snap screw holes with 4200. The 4200 worked perfectly and the new UltraDeck looks great. Lots of compliments and everyone who sees it says they want to replace their carpet with UltraDeck. The people at UltraDeck are very friendly, professional, and great to ...

Re: Mantus Anchor for R-5

I’m also looking to replace my old anchor. I have a 2015 R5 and don’t have windlass. I am considering the Mantus, the Fortress, and a box anchor. I boat on Lake Gorge in upstate NY in the Adirondack mountains. The lake bottom is muddy, with weeds and certain spots have sunken tree branches and tree ...

Re: It's spring and I'm bored

what type of chart plotter do you have and where and how will you mount it to replace your RAM mount? When you installed it originally did you drill a new hole in the hull to mount the transducer?

Re: Sealant recommendation for removing deck carpet snap screws

Thanks for responding Vtengr. I did consider using snap-in seadek or an equivalent but decided against it. I’m going with another vendors solution which is a PE blend closed cell foam. Compared to Seadek It’s more durable, lighter, stain resistant, and more pet friendly. The company is based out of ...

Sealant recommendation for removing deck carpet snap screws

I’m replacing my original snap-in carpet on my 2015 R5 with Seadek and looking for a recommendation for a sealant to fill the screw holes throughout the deck after removing the snap-in screws. Considering 3M 5200, Sika 291, or just filling the holes with gelcoat. Any one of these options better then ...
